    Donning a suit designed to protect ordinary humans from potential radiation, Captain Atom was born in a tale by artist Steve Ditko and writer Joe Gill. Military scientist Allen Adam's body was vaporized after he was launched in an experimental rocket ship. Miraculously Allen reformed his own body and found that he now harnessed the very power of the atom from within. With military ties and the nuclear arms race in full swing, Captain Atom was widely considered to be the definitive cold war hero. Introducing Captain Adam
