This prequel relates the events of Mordath's original bid to conquer the Five Lands of Quin. His castle is surrounded by the unified forces of four of the Five Lands, and his troll are completely outnumbered.

As Mordath takes the field of battle himself, Ayden, the leader of the liberation army, makes his first appearance. After pleading with Mordath to surrender before he loses his own life, Ayden is forced to shoot Mordath with an arrow.

The war is over, but is this the last Quin has seen of Mordath?
