The fan-favorite G.I. JOE ninja is set to strike out on his own in an all-new series, G.I. JOE: Snake Eyes: Agent of COBRA! Debuting in January of 2015, this series builds upon the acclaimed new G.I. JOE series, released last month. With an exciting creative team and a secretive mission, the stakes have never been higher!
Snake Eyes’ shocking return to the world of G.I. JOE will see the long-time hero taking on a new role as a member of COBRA! Breaking DESTRO out of prison is just his first stop on this game-changing mission that will pit Snake Eyes directly against the G.I. JOE team led by Scarlett.
"Snake Eyes has been gone from the pages of IDW's G.I. JOE books for almost two years, so his return alone would make for an incredible story," says series editor Carlos Guzman. "But Mike's idea to have him return on the side of Cobra begs so many exciting questions: What could cause Snake Eyes to join the enemy? How could Cobra convince G.I. JOE's most dangerous warrior to betray his unit? What will G.I. JOE do when they find out the ninja commando has returned… but is now an agent for the villainous organization? There was no doubt that the answers would make this series one of the best G.I. JOE stories ever told!"
Praised for his work on G.I. JOE: The Cobra Files, Mike Costa returns to the world of G.I. JOE, writing this explosive series. Joined by artist Paolo Villanelli, who will provide covers and interior art, the duo will set Snake Eyes against unexpected new dangers.
"SNAKE EYES: AGENT OF COBRA is, without a doubt, the most exciting and action-packed story I've ever written in my six-year history with the G.I. JOE universe,” said Mike Costa. “I wanted to take the dark psychology and intrigue that made G.I. JOE: COBRA so fun to work on, and graft it into the DNA of a big action movie, starring G.I. JOE's most iconic character. It's probably my ultimate G.I. JOE story, and it's really been fun to work on. I'd always tried to approach G.I. JOE: COBRA by asking myself "how could this get worse?" Well, Snake Eyes is working for Cobra. I think I've answered that question"

Nice

why snake eyes why
I'm not sure whether to be excited Snake is back, or in tears over him being on the other side...
As much as I hope for his sake it's a covert sting-operation, the story potential of him going bad is huge.
Also is this an extra series on top of the relaunch that's just happened? Or a story arc in the main title?
I've been saying that Snake Eyes should have his own series for years. But I didn't see this coming. Wow.

This. Is. Awesome.
I'm calling a renegade op, only Snake and the top of Joe command know it's going on.

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have ourselves a winner.
Well at least the best plausible scenario.

GI Joe isn't Japanese.
you know growing up, i always thought Snake Eyes sounded like a Cobra soldier name and Storm Shadow was GI Joe name. That's just me though i guess.
@super_man_23: more like nah?
why snake eyes why
Because he's a snake who tempted Eve to eat the apple. Now, he's tempted into joining Cobra. =P

I know that. I was talking about Snake Eyes. He was trained/raised in Japan.

Touche.
... Meh... another comic book series just going for shock and all and OMG moments. Unless there's some logic behind this, this is just idiotic. I find it disappointing that Larry Hama and maybe a handful of others have ever given Snake Eyes an actually personality, character depth, emotion, something that makes him an actually character. It's subtle, but it's there... but the rest just write him as a coldblooded killing machine with zero personality. He might as well just be a robot in this series.
At least this is a AU storyline, the only G.I. Joe title worth reading is still the RAH series by Hama. He comes up with better storylines and characterizations than a typical soap opera plot.
THIS....IS....AWESOME!!!!!! finally someone decided to write something crazy and getting out of the trend by having snakeeyes ditch the joes and join the cobra. I hope it not him doing spy stuff against cobra that would be lame. SO FREAKING EXCITED for this. it always good to see thing in a whole new level. beside i agreed that we should dig more into Cobra love to see it in their point of views. hmmmm, and than we would have storm shadow join with joes haha
Namaless, these who are easily entertained are someone who actually enjoy something that is out of the trend and start something new. So despise of snakeyes being a honorable and loyal friend to the Joes, there might be a reason why he joined the cobra. Either as spy or as a member. there prob more of snakeyes we don't know of.
It's not new at all, it's just a repeat of what happen in the last storyline from Chuck Dixon. They did something like this with G.I. Joe: Reloaded in 2004 where Snake Eyes was a Cobra member but joins G.I. Joe and it turns out that it's Duke who's the Cobra spy. Hell, they had Scarlett join Cobra back in the mid 90s in the canon title.
