..I haven't read that many Surfer comics in recent years, but I note that Thanos always has the upper hand when he meets Surfer. I partly understand why, because Thanos is great at absorbing energy strikes, thus neutralising Surfer's main form of attack, but apparently Thanos has also almost beaten Surfer to death with just a few punches, which I don't explain, as the Surfer was created to be almost unbreakable, his body being able to survive deepest space and collisions with meteors. Also, the Surfer has this reputation for being amazingly powerful, so I would have hoped he put up at least a little bit of a struggle, even allowing for Thanos being so powerful. Can someone explain please!

Because every writer who writes Thanos has a hard on for him. Not to mention Surfer is one of the most misused characters in comics when it comes to power, right up there with Spectre. I believe he should at least be able to go toe to toe with him.

I would think the Surfer would win these battles hands down. If he simply used the power Cosmic... Not just fire rays of energy... Simply put bad writing.

From the standpoint of powerset, Silver Surfer is one of the most inconsistently written in all of comics. He can end a majority of the conflicts that he and his team are in if he just simply remembers his powers.

..But if the Surfer is capable of destroying planets, creating solar systems etc, surely he has the power to be more than just swatted aside. And anyway, why would Surfer just try and brawl with him or hit him with cosmic rays that can be just soaked up by Thanos?

As other people say, Surfer is so inconsistently written. Reminds me of another favourite character of mine, Martian Manhunter who on paper should be able to take down Superman et al but is never allowed to let rip!!!

Well in two battles the Surfer killed thanos in both battles.
