Holy power cosmic! I knew this book was going to be special when Marvel announced the creative team of writer Dan Slott and, one of the best artists in the business; Mike Allred. However, what I was not aware of was how much zany fun this book would be. The book is so over the top and self aware that you can tell the creative team is just giggling as they write and draw this book, and I mean that in the best way possible. Why, you ask ? This iteration of the Silver Surfer has, as of late, been compared to Marvel's version of Doctor Who. And, honestly, it's easy to see why. A powerful deity-like being who is kind-of-but-not-quite human finds his partner, an attractive female, to take on adventures through space (and potentially time) with his magic means of transportation, defying logic and seeming to come up with an answer for everything. In an early interview, Dan Slott admitted that the current story for the Silver Surfer was one that carried a certain connection to the Doctor in Silver Surfer’s female “companion”.
