Norrin and Shalla, Sitting in a Tree

I really try to be objective when I write a review, but being such a fan of the Silver Surfer may be clouding that in this issue. Where we last left off, the High Evolutionary removed the Surfer's Power Cosmic from him and he was left with bullets in his chest.

Naturally, he survives in the care of Cybermancer. What I find remarkable, and the Surfer does as well, is that he has been turned back in to flesh and blood, which is impossible. The Silver Surfer has lost or had is Power Cosmic drained from him on several occasions. That didn't mean he was back to old Norrin Radd - he was just a shiny guy with no powers. Like he said:

    I don't have a heart.

That's what makes this all so interesting. Not in all his time has the Surfer been actually reverted back in to Norrin Radd. We aren't getting insight here as to the psyche of the Silver Surfer - we are getting what it's like to BE the Silver Surfer. If you really think about it, he gave up everything, Norrin Radd, to save his planet. That means not only your freedom and your love, but down to the simplest senses that give us pleasure, like touch, smell and taste. That's why the Silver Surfer is so compelling.

This story didn't have as much action in or quite as much grab as the first issue, but if you're a fan of the Silver Surfer, you should love it. We find out part of the High Evolutionary's plan as he hijacks one of Galactus' Star Spheres and returns to Earth with it. Instead of it destroying, it seems to be creating....

Side Note: This is awfully familiar to me. In the novel Fantastic Four: Redemption of the Silver Surfer, the main antagonist is the powerful being Prodigion, a being similar to Galactus but residing in the Negative Zone. The Silver Surfer wishes to serve as one of his heralds, the Outriders, and distribute life throughout the universe to make up for all the death he was once responsible for. He soon learns that the life Prodigion gives planets actually kills every living thing on the planet and replaces all the lifeforms with "better" lifeforms. Could this be what HE is up to?

I can't help it. I loved this book. Five out of Five again.

      Review: Silver Surfer #2 0

Silver Surfer has lost his Power Cosmic and must stop High Evolutionary, as Norrin Radd, from essentially becoming the new Galactus.   The Good I love that Norrin Radd has been Silver Surfer for so long that basic human things like emotions are incredibly confusing to him. We get to see more and more glimpses of Norrin's old life and his transitioning into Silver Surfer through some quick flashback sequences. It really grounds a character who, for years, the readers have considered "godlike." No...
