Sally used to be a waiter and a burleque dancer. She became a costumed hero and a member of the Minutemen, though was doing it to be offered a modeling and acting role. Jupiter was a name she used to prevent people from finding out she was polish. When she was 19, 16 year old Edward Blake, aka The Comedian, who was attracted to her, brutally beat her until she was unable to fight back to rape her. Before he can, however, he is found and beated by Hooded Justice. Blake was fired, but Sally's agent convinced her not tto press charges, to keep the team's image from being damaged. Since Hooded Justice was gay, she posed as his girlfriend to hide his secret, to prevent people from finding out the truth. Eventually, she met with Edward Blake again, this time having consensual sex, though not fully forgiving him for what happened, and gave birth to a little girl, Laurie. She eventually marries her agent.

Believing her father was Hooded Justice, Laurie was pushed into the superhero business by her mother. She didn't want to be her mom's successor, but went with it anyway. As a teenager, she entered a dangerous relationship with Doctor Manhattan, which her his then girlfriend and Laurie's mother did not go well with. She would eventually meet with her real thare, Edward Blake, unaware that he was her father, though Bake himself knew. Her mother broke off his attempt to befriend Laurie, telling her about the attempted rape. She would continue hating him for years. When the Keene act arrived, Laurie was less then upset about retiring, but her mother was more upset. She would go to live with Doctor Manhattan in a secret Government base for years until his lack of humanity got to her. She moved in with Dan Drieberg, the second Nite Owl, who had a crush on her for years, and developed a relationship with him. When she spoke to Doctor Manhattan about the fate of humanity and its importance, she realized the horror that Edward Blake is her father. This revelation that 2 people as different as Edward and Sally giving life to a child like Laurie was so touching to him, Doctor Manhattan's faith in humanity was restored.
At the end of the events of Watchmen, Laurie and Dan, disguised as a married couple, visit Sally and discuss the truth of her father and fully forgiving her mother for hiding the truth. When Laurie and Dan leave, Sally takes her old Minutemen picture and, while crying, kisses the part of the picture with The Comedian on it.
