Recently, there was a book that came out called "Captain America: Reborn" in which Steve Rogers came back from the dead. Five out of the six issues had come out, and a week or so before the sixth issue came out, essentially revealing how Steve came back, he was popping up in a slew of Marvel books. We all knew he was going to come back, but it left some readers confused. Marvel apologized for what happened because of what seemed to be a shipping error, but things have been spoiled again.

Last week, Siege 4 came out. It was final chapter in the Siege mini-series that left the reader with some shocking events within the book. Another new issue also came out last week, the epilogue to Siege called "The Sentry: Fallen Son." As you can see on the cover, Sentry is dead. So, the death of Sentry is ruined the second you see the cover or even the title of this book. To me, his death was a big thing in the last issue of Siege and something that shouldn't have been spoiled for a reader, especially if they're just walking around the comic book store, picking up books. When you go to the comic book store, the last thing you want to see is the death of a major character on the cover of the book. Shouldn't that be a surprise as you flip the pages?

What could have happened here? Could this have been a shipping error again or was this intentional? And by intentional, do they just not care? This would have made complete sense to come out a week or two later, but the same day is baffling. Maybe it comes down to the fact that there is so much death in comics, in the past decade, that it's just not shocking anymore. We know the characters will eventually be brought back. Heck, if they can bring back Doug Ramsey, they'll bring back Sentry. I didn't think this book, Siege, was delayed at all, and that would be the easiest explanation for this. It just doesn't make sense to me.

What do you think could have happened? Did the cover spoil the story for you?

Yeah I agree with you here and it seemed like it was happening a lot with Siege...all of the tie in issues were basically the same events from the main book just seen from other perspectives and some of those books came out before the main issues so we had a good idea of what was going to happen before it did

If something is happening in one book we shouldn't be seeing the after affects of that event before the event happens and if that main book is delayed for whatever reason then the books that take place afterwards should be pushed back to....Sentry Fallen Son shouldn't have came out the same week as Siege #4 it should have came out this week

No I don't think writers a deliberately spoiling stories but Marvel management and editorial should get their house in order. The should delay one comic or speed up another if there's going to be a conflict of interests

Its not exclusive to Marvel either.  Several issues of Cry for Justice spoiled some elements of Blackest Night, though not nearly to the blatant level as what is happening with Siege.

I get the feeling that publishers are trying to maintain such a high event-related tempo, and of course the associated sales, that they're willing to risk spoilers in order to cram as many high-profile books together in a row as possible.

I have to give my LCS a lot of credit.  They recognized how big of a spoiler Fallen Sun's cover was, so they put all of the issues on the stand in the little black sleeves you might find porn/explicit stuff normally in and just put the title on with a sharpie.

you would think such a huge company would have a slightly better marketting stratergy in terms of selling arcs and not giving away the ending and potential damaging sales

Agreed, creating a character that everyone supposedly knew from years past and was mysteriously missing from all of their memories only to kill him off a few years later isn't impactful, it's pointless. Yay for The Heroic Age, but trying to get me to care about this boring, pointless concoction is damn near impossible.

To much is placed on spoilers, I look at the various story arcs that they try to run concurrent as more of the journey and not the destination. Its like a road trip, you know where you are going, its how you get there and what you see that makes the trip really worth while.

What you described in your observation is exactly what happened to me. Browsing the comic books and what do I see? Sentry : Fallen Son.

Before that happened I was really really REALLY hoping that they could somehow spare the Sentry and kill the void. So much for that.

I could be wrong, but I remember "Siege" #4 getting delayed. That would, at least, answer why these books were released together.

Sentry's death is something that I already saw coming, and death is not a permanent satus in comics now.
I agree with the feelin but spoiling Sentry's death is not a big deal, he comes back every time, another thing would've been if they had spoiled the other death in Siege 4, which by the way is not permanent either but it is interesting.

I honestly thought the story would have focused around Sentry's fall from grace in the hero community. He's been manipulated by Osborn, the void, his wife has been killed because of him, all these bad things happened because he couldn't control his own abilities, and now no one trusts him. Marvel's been making a habit to juice up their stories with tag lines like "Oh, someone dies, blah blah blah" and quite frankly, I enjoyed that it brought more weight to the stories, but now it's just old. I thought that they would at least have Bob do something different. He had the potential to do so many different things. Hell, could you imagine him in the cosmic realm, fighting with guys like the Silver Surfer against Thanos, etc.?

I think writing an article about the spoiler, with the spoiler included, is a spoiler. Why not just keep things like this to yourself? I had already figured Sentry would fall at the end of #4, but come on! Not everyone picks up the newest issues on day one (like me), so I would rather this not be on the site. I wasn't even aware of Sentry: Fallen Son before this article.

This also happened with Flash: Rebirth and Professor Zoom.  The Blackest night tie-ins revealed everything before Rebirth ended.  Might have been due to art delays but still  same issue.

To be fair about Reborn it was orginally going to be five issues and end in december, when all of the annuals had steve appear  in them. Hence why who will wield to shield came out that month as well. they needed him back before Siege began the next month.  Hitch felt he needed an extra issue to fully tell the story and Marvel gave it to him. i think one editor said that six was more director cut.

Also Remember that siege 4 was originally scheduled to come out in April but was delayed to May so these are more of art  and schduling issues than marvel coming out and spoiling the book the week of release. Beside it was obvious to anyone fllowing the bok that sentry was going to die in the end. THere was one death that al ot of people did not see coming and so marvel still and something to show

Yea it was kind of predictable that Sentry was going to bite the dust. It is awkward that you go to your local comic book store and go look through alphabetical order to look at this weeks comics and see the cover of Sentry Fallen Son before Siege 4 lol.

the cover definitly ruined the story for me, u know what happens before u even open the comic.

Marvel do this all the frickin' time.  It's why I get so iritated about their badly timed cross-overs.  Half way through a 'major cross-over, and the solicitations for the next story arc give away who's going to survive or die...

Messiah War was spoiled by Utopia.  Necrosha was spoiled by Second Coming.  X-Force #26 was (almost) spoiled by the solicited covers for July's comics showing characters who were meant to 'possibly' die.  Lame...!

but yeah theis epiloge should've come out like a week or two later rather than the same day... and actually some of the things have been spoiled for the Heroic Age in Invincible Iron Man since it came out a week before Siege #4...

I think people thought Sentry would go out as a hero... he just went out with a whimper begging to die. Not really going out as a hero at all. The Fallen Sun thing was a weird book, similar thing was done for Hercules but seems people forgot this guy went rogue.

As was I.  I felt more for Loki's death than I ever did for Sentry's.  More or less new it was comming, and even then, didn't muster any emotions or feelings, other than feeling sorry for a character that had alot of potential but ultimately didn't live up to it cause of editorial and bad decisions.

It is pretty lame, I don't think they should put THESE CHARACTERS ARE FINE, THESE ONES ARE DEAD, THESE ONES GET TOGETHER, THESE ONES BREAK UP, ect. on the front cover...

That way the only thing that can spoil it is spending too much time on a comic forum, lol.

it was one of the most predictable things in recent marvel history. but yeah, i guess it was frustrating to see that on the shelf when i was looking for siege 4.
