    Showcase #4

Showcase » Showcase #4 - Mystery of the Human Thunderbolt / The Man Who Broke the Time Barrier released by DC Comics on October 1956.

    Short summary describing this issue.

No recent wiki edits to this page.

Here it is - the comic that launched the Silver Age! When Editor Julius Schwartz decided the time maybe right to re-introduce the super-hero genre, he turned to writer's John Broome and Robert Kanigher and artists Carmine Infantino and Joe Kubert to revive the Flash! In place of Jay Garrick of Keystone City, we are introduced in this issue to pedestrian police scientist Barry Allen of Central City.

Once the sales figures for this issue came in (and they took 2 or 3 months in those days) a follow up issue was commissioned (Showcase#8) and then consecutive issues #13 & #14 before the Flash title was revived with the number #105, continuing the numbering of the old Jay Garrick series.

    Mystery of the Human Thunderbolt

This is the startling tale of THE Flash -- a man who was so fast that he not only outraced his own shadow -- but also broke the sound barrier -- on foot! But what happens when to the Fastest Man Alive when he battles The Slowest Man on Earth? Is his incredible speed a help -- or a hindrance? Hold onto your socks for this amazing answer as you read..."Mystery of the Human Thunderbolt!"

The Man Who Broke the Time Barrier

A lip in time propels a exiled criminal of the future to our era, setting the stage for an amazing conflict between the super-scientific thief and the super fast Flash! Victory shifts from one contestant to another -- until each realizes that a final triumph can be gained only by "The Man Who Broke the Time Barrier"

He’s been such an important part of DC, so it’s surprising that I am the first. To right this injustice to this iconic character, I have decided I will review the silver age appearances of this character starting with this comic (I have digital copies of all of those comics).
