Origin

Shirahoshi is the youngest child of King Neptune and Queen Otohime. She loved her mother dearly and would often sit in on her mother's lessons to local children about the surface world. When Shirahoshi saw her mother being held hostage by Saint Myosgard of the Celestial Dragons, Shirahoshi panicked and inadvertently summoned several Sea Kings. Her powers were hidden from her to protect her.

Just as her mother was nearing her goal of gathering signatures to bridge the racial gap between fish-men and humans, Otohime was shot. Otohime witnessed her mother's murder and nearly lost control of her powers again. Shirahoshi and her brothers made one final promise with their mother to not hate the person who killed her and work to build a brighter future.

Soon after Otohime's death, Shirahoshi was being harassed by love letters that were flying at her wherever she went. The pirate Vander Decken IX had touched Shirahoshi was when was shocked by her mother's attack, and now he could target her with any weapon that he threw no matter where she was. Otohime had to take refuse inside the Iron Shell Tower from the weapons Vander Decken had been throwing to kill her for rejecting him. She was unable to attend her mother's funeral and spend the next ten years locked inside with her pet shark Megalo. Megalo, in fact, had witnessed who had actually killed Otohime and told Shirahoshi. She kept this painful scerect to live up her the promise she made with her mother.

Creation

One Piece Vol. 62 JPN (May 2011)

Shirahoshi (しらほし, Shirahoshi) is a supporting character in the One Piece series that was created by Eiichiro Oda. The series first began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump on August 4, 1997. She would later appear in the Fish-Man Island Arc that began in Volume 61.

Her first appearance was in One Piece Volume 62 CH. 612 "Brought by the Shark They Saved".

Fish-Man Island Arc

Ten years had passed, and Vander Decken was still trying to kill Shirahoshi. While she was asleep in her room, she felt someone jumping on her chest. This was Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. She thought he was an attacker, but he quickly saved her from an axe that had flown into the room. Luffy was rude, but he promised to take her out of the tower anywhere she wanted. She was reluctant, but he had an idea of how she could leave unseen. She hid inside Megalo's mouth and they left the castle for the Sea Forest. Alnog the way, they stopped off to pick up some of Luffy's crew, and Vander Decken attacked. Luffy protected her, and they later arrived at the Sea Forest, where Jimbei had been waiting. At the Sea Forest, Shirahoshi was finally able to visit her mother's grave for the first time. She then listened to Jimbei explain the the Straw Hats about her mother, Fisher Tiger, and their recent history.

Hody Jones soon announced that he had taken Shirahoshi's family captive and intended to execute them at Conchcorde Plaza. This was part of a trap to draw her in, becasue Hody fears Shirahoshi's power. Shirahoshi was accidentally captured with Jimbei and Luffy, whow as hiding inside Megalo's mouth. Hody Jones had finally admitted to being Othime's killer, and Shirahoshi revealed she had known. He mocked her for hiding him identity and was going to murder Neptune. She cried out for Luffy to save her father, and he leap from Megalo to kick Hody away. Jimbei and the Straw Hats protected Shirahoshi from the New Fish-Man Pirates until the island was under threat from the giant ship Noah, which Vander Decken had thrown to kill her and crush the entire underwater-island.

Shirahoshi swam into the ocean to draw Noah away from the island. This made her vulnerable to Hody, but Luffy and her brothers protected her. Noah was was now falling toward the island after Hody had stabbed Decken. Shirahoshi could only watch as the seriously wounded Luffy struggled to destroy Noah to same the island. Though before the giant ship was destroyed, the Sea Kings arrived to catch it. They explained how she had called them through her will to help Luffy. Shirahoshi rushed Luffy to his crew. His life was saved from a blood transfusion from Jimbei.

There was a giant party at the Ryugu Palace for the Straw Hats, but Shirahoshi was attacked and nearly abducted by Caribou. Luffy saved her and sent Caribou flying away. The Straw Hats left the island despite her wish they stay for another year, but they all made a promise to return and take her to see a real forest at the surface.

Powers & Abilities

Mermaid are known as the fastest creatures in the water, and they are nearly impossible to catch. They can also breath underwater and communicate with much of the fish-life in the sea. The larger the mermaid means they can communicate with the larger fish. Shirahoshi can communicate with even the largest fish, including her pet megalodon shark.

Poseidon

Shirahoshi has inherited the legendary powers of one of the ancient weapons of history named Poseidon. She was born with these powers, but she was completely unaware. With these powers she can communicate and potentially control the giant Sea Kings of the oceans. It is a power that could destroy continents.

Anime

One Piece (1999)

The One Piece animated series is a direct adaptation of Oda's original manga.. It's produced by TOEI Animation and first began airing in October 20, 1999. Shirahoshi's her first anime appearance was in One Piece - Episode 531 "The Ryugu Palace! Taken by the Shark that They Saved!", which aired on January 15, 2012. Her character in the Japanese series is voiced by Yukana, and the U.S. dub produced by FUNimation has yet to announce a voice actress.
