    She-Hulks Issue 2

In a world full of Hulks, some of them had to be She. These are there stories. And I'll be honest, I was excited. She-Hulks is currently on top of my Hulks list. Not because it's necessarily the best, but just because it's fun and accessible. You don't need to know a whole lot to jump into this and honestly the recap page'll tell you all you need, so why not dive into She-Hulks issue 2?

This issue opens with Jen questioning Wizard, having captured him last issue. It seems he'll talk, but only if they do things his way. Meanwhile, Lyra is running late for her second day of school. Being ignorant of our culture sure doesn't help her, as she finds herself getting detention. Back to Wizard, we see that he's gotten some swankier digs so that he'll divulge information, telling the Hulk now that his comrade the Red Ghost is looking for a gorilla in his home country of Russia. As Jen and Lyra continue their civilian lives to mixed results, they are sent to go take down Red Ghost, but who they find there will change everything...

Harrison Wilcox writes here and does a fine job. He keeps the story light and fun, but still manages to engage the reader. It was particularly nice to see Jen talking with her old flame, Wyatt Wingfoot. It helps to make her less career oriented and it goes a long way towards making the character more appealing to me, as I always found her to be a bit of a jerk. Lyra having to learn to control her anger has been a theme with her from the beginning and it's done well here. Dodgeball, while very fun, is very frustrating and is a good learning tool here. The scene in question also plays against expectations, because I honestly thought Lyra was going to demolish everybody. Oh yea, and monkey fights? Awesome!

Ryan Stegman on art continues to do a great job. His art is clean, clear, and consistent and there is never a moment where anything in his art comes out of left field. I find his layouts pleasing, his splash pages energetic and exciting, and his monkeys strong, while a bit cartoony. He's not breaking the mold or anything, but Stegman proves you don't have to be name talent and full of grit to do great work. I hope this guy finds some more work with Hulk at some point because he's making the She-Hulks book way better than you'd expect it to be. Plus, there are so many pages and panels I want to post in this review, and that's a rarity for me.
Overall, this issue does a great job of tying together the last bits of Jeph Loebs run on Hulk. The action is fun, the characters are likable, and the art is easy on the eyes. 4 out of 5. My one complaint? Why does Lyra have to cry... Buy this book even if you know nothing about anything Hulk!
