This Comic Shows Us What Really Makes a Hero

Captain Marvel has always been one of my personal favorite heroes and recently I don't think he's been getting the respect he deserves.  Captain Marvel is a hero, and he's a hero for a big reason but now-a-days I don't think we're being shown that.  Well Shazam!  The Power of Hope  brings back that fact to life.  Captain Marvel is a hero, a darn good one, and in this comic issue we see that perfectly.

This issue isn't all action, and it isn't beat 'em up.  It's has a little bit of that, but this comic shows us so much more than that.  We're given a look into the emotional standpoint of not only Captain Marvel but also Billy Batson himself.

Captain Marvel, taking a weekend off from the continuous crime fighting, takes an opportunity to visit children at a hospital and give their lives a redeeming sense of hope by visiting every kid.  There he see's that even with all the powers he has as Captain Marvel, sometimes all he can really do is just offer some gentle words and a kind smile.   And in the process of doing this, he regains something in himself that he was close to losing even without him realizing it.

The story in this is sweet and it's a great way to show us how important something as small as hope can really be.  Captain Marvel has always been one of my personal favorite heroes, and this comic does him so much justice.  I completely recommend this issue to anyone, whether you're a fan of heroes, or a fan of anti-heroes.  This is a great read and perfect for any comic fan.  The art is great as well, Alex Ross is a genius artist and absolutely amazing.
