Shard was Bishop's younger sister, and was a member of the XSE with Bishop in the alternate reality Earth-1191. Edit

Origin

Shard was the youngest commanding officer in the X.S.E ever. She was ambushed by Trevor Fitzroy and turned into an Emplate so now she had steal other mutants energy, killing them, in order to sustain her own life. Hating what she had become, she was killed by Bishop and had her personality stored into a holographic matrix projector. She was still alive but she did not have body and was able to appear only as a hologram which Bishop always carried with him. When Bishop got trapped in present day he programmed Shard's matrix into Cerebro so that she could appear almost anywhere in the mansion instead of only where Bishop was. Professor Stephens, an anti-mutant activist, stole the projector from Bishop and put Shard's matrix into an energy containment unit, hoping to find a way to control her. During a battle in which the projector was destroyed, it somehow merged with the energy containment unit and Shard was reborn as a photon based energy life-form. She then joined X-Factor and tried to create an X.S.E. in this time. Trevor Fitzroy captured Shard and brought her into the time that he had taken control of, holding her captive. In the final battle between Bishop and Fitzroy, Shard allowed Bishop to absorb her so that he could use the energy to finally kill Fitzroy. Unfortunately, the intended killing blow missed, a fact that has haunted Bishop ever since.

In her various forms, Shard manifested several unusual abilities. At different points she was and was not mentally imprinted onto a holographic projector, displaying some ability to interact with electronics. Shard was able to project herself in a fully photonic form allowing her to move intangibly or make herself tangible by absorbing ambient light. This light also composed her blast powers. The most unusual aspect of her abilities is that, at different points, she was able to operate without electronics, meaning that her digitized memory became able to manifest itself non-electronically (?). It seems inarguable that Shard possessed more vast light manipulating abilities than it originally appeared and also an unusual ability to interact with electronics and/or exist independently as a psionic entity, though she did not live long enough to display her full potential. She remains the mysterious ghost in the machine.
