I read that " A feature film, The Hands of Shang-Chi, is in the planning stages, with Yuen Wo Ping directing and Ang Lee producing.".I could imagine Shang-Chi would b good 4 a gritty realistic kung-fu movie. The bad thing is that he's kind o'an obscure character (although I think he would have great potential 4 his own series). Also he came out in 1973 prob. as I think the result o'Bruceploitation (like Iron Fist but even he has more substance now after the "Immortal iron fist" story) and his dad is Fu Manchu;a now racist stereotypical pulp fiction character.I think they should try out a Shang-Chi series, give a bit o'time & then give him a movie.Any other thoughts?.
Shang-Chi
Character » Shang-Chi appears in 1040 issues.
Shang-Chi is the son of a sinister Chinese mastermind. He was raised and trained in the martial arts by his father and his instructors. A spy, a romantic, a philosopher and an Avenger. As one of the best martial artists in the Marvel universe, Shang chooses to use his talents to fight evil and defend the innocent.
Would a Shang-Chi movie b good?
An Iron Fist movie would be SOOO much better than a Shang-Chi movie, imoYeeeeehup, this is the way to go. I like Shang-Chi, but let's be honest, this guy can't support a miniseries, let a lone a feature film. At best this would work as a straight to DVD animated release.
Marvel films suck as whole so I wouldn't expect it to be any good just because of what it is.You would think to make a movie with a character whom is basically a rip-off of every action movie star roles into one would be easy to make a movie out of but hollywood would find a way to f#ck it up.He'd be white with a black girlfriend, the fight choreography would be loaded with wires and unnecessary effects.Maybe the putties from Power Rangers would be there for some reason.Someone who never appears in Shang Chi ever would also be in it like...Iunno, Googam. They just can't get these movies right.

I'd rather Iron Fist.Or Lady Shiva.
Shiva is DC.
Anyway, Shang-Chi could work rather well. Old school Kung-Fu flick
Blade was obscure too, but he was in successful film anyway. As long as its good, it wouldn't matter.

Shang-Chi would be less complicated and would be a throwback to old school Kung-Fu movies. Iron Fist would do better in a Heroes for Hire movie anyway.

You are kidding right? The movies from Marvel studious have all been excellent. Iron Man, Thor, Incredible Hulk.
It's not my bias, i've read the Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu and it wouldn't really make any sense on the big screen coming from Marvel. The only think that really makes him super powered is his use of chi and other martial arts techniques which is also attributed to Iron Fist who is more popular, why would Marvel of all companies make a Shang Chi film without doing Iron Fist first? It doesn't make sense. But that's just your bias though(No offence intended. Besides, no reason we can't have both.

I hadn't seen Thor,Avengers,or Captain America before making that statement but notice the distinction between "ones made by Marvel studios" and those that aren't. The films that weren't made by Marvel Studios are still films based on their characters and they were mostly all garbage. And BTW Incredible Hulk and the first Iron Man film was mediocre. You are kidding right? The movies from Marvel studious have all been excellent. Iron Man, Thor, Incredible Hulk.
I've actually changed my opinions on Shang-Chi, I've read a few Master of Kung Fu comics and they're pretty good, and I like the character. But a standalone movie, I'm still unsure about... :P
Marvel's movies do tend to disappoint. However as a fan of MOKF, I'd love to see the Shang Chi on the big screen. Anything that gives the character high profile exposure is welcome. It may be just the thing to get the character back into a solo monthly.
It would be interesting to see how they address his origin, considering Marvel no longer has rights to use Fu Manchu.
@Vance Astro: The great thing about Shang Chi is that he is not a super powered being.
