Shame Itself #1 - Chapter 43: The Agenda Objective Domination Symposium of Blood

4

A collection of comedic stories featuring Marvel characters.

Lots of short comics in this issue, so I'll quickly break down the good and bad of each one for you.

1. Psycho Man uses his tablet to make the readers feel Awe.

Good

I love me some Psycho Man.

Bad

Pretty cheesy stuff.

2. Galactus, Dormammu, Thanos, The Seprent try to make a plan to take over the world.

Good

I really enjoyed the art by Clayton Henry, but sadly, it didn't fit with the writing.

Bad

It wasn't funny. It tried way too hard to make the reader laugh and failed every time.

3. Wy-If: The Hunan Torch makes things delicious.

Good

Very funny, and great art style. Awesome ending line to the one pager.

4. Ben Grimm and Reed Richards go to their class reunion. Hilarity ensues.

Good

Laugh out loud funny. I loved seeing no one care about Reed, and everyone holding Ben in such high regards. Dr Doom's appearance really made this story hilarious.

5. Wy-If: Night jobs for super-heroes.

Good

Funny, but no where nears as good as the first one. I'm still loving the art style.

Bad

Over-used "burns when I pee" joke from Human Torch.

6.Flow chart of putting a giant event together

Good

It's exactly how I feel with Marvel events

Bad

Some of the jokes are a bit over the top.

7. Wy-If: Vision is a computer... he falls for scams and gets viruses.

Good

Really funny and awesome concept for a one-page story. Funny stuff. Overall, my favorite of the Wy-If stories.

8. Super-heroes answer questions asked by fans.

Good

Last page, of this three-pager, is pretty funny. Really cool concept.

Bad

Overall, the short was just ok. It wasn't hilarious, the writing was "ok," and the art was bland.

9. Wy-If: Downsides to super-powers

Good

Has a good fart joke. Same as the other Wy-Ifs. It has good writing and an art style that fits.

Bad

Has another bad fart joke.

The Verdict

I skipped three other stories, one being a Wy-If one, but it's more of the same. This is really a mixed bag of writers and artists on this book. By far, the best stuff in this issue is what Elliot Kalan was writing, which was the Ben/Reed school reunion and the Wy-If bits. Art-wise, you're going to get more cartoony bits than anything, which really fit the writing and tone of the book, and the only time I really didn't like the art was during a story called "I Hate Peter Parker." Everything else was pretty good.

With so many mediocre Fear Itself tie-ins floating around, is this one worth it? Well, I wouldn't even call it a Fear Itself tie-in. Only the first story deals with that event. This is just a fun little book on its own. This book borders between a 3 and a 4, but the Marvel Event flow-chart is what made me bump is up a notch. It completely makes fun of how Marvel has been running their events over the past few years. I recommend this issue.
