    Review: Shadowland: Elektra #1 0

Elektra ponders how she handle the "heel turn" of her former lover and Hand usurper, Daredevil, whilst in the middle of two very intense back-to-back bouts with armed goons and ninjas.  The Good   Now, this is an Elektra we rarely get to see! Wells has a perfect handle on this character who's simultaneously a killing machine and an introspective philosopher. The fact that she has this telepathic/spiritual discussion with her mentor while she's in the midst of a fight is absolutely brilliant. I'm...

If You Want Blood...You've Got It 0

I'm glad they went the way of a parental advisory comic here because frankly anything involving Elektra should be pretty damn violent. In deconstructing the importance of Shadowland to Daredevil, Elektra is one of the primary players you'd expect to see, but it took her a little while to get embroiled in the arc. While Elektra is both a violent and cerebral character, she is not an overly emotional one. She's often called "cold" by other characters in the Marvel Universe and deservedly so. As su...

Wells Should Write an Elektra Ongoing 0

The funny thing about Marvel's Shadowland event is that its tie-ins are proving to be, on average, so much more interesting than the main story itself. This issue is an excellent example of that.  Zeb Wells is proving to be one of the great Elektra writers, and the root of that is how unapologetic his take on the character is. So often when killers like Elektra take center stage, writers resort to softening them in order to make them more sympathetic characters. Suddenly, they only kill when for...

Elektra Deserves Better: Shadowland Elektra 1

This is possibly one of the weakest tie-ins i've read to anything.Pretty much nothing happens in this book. What happens in the book is summed up or will be summed up in another book. Basically Master Izo doesn't get why she is supporting Murdock and will help her try and find her way. Elektra kicks some ass in the beginning but she doesn't fight anyone significant. I don't really see why what happened in this comic couldn't have just been an aside in another tie-in. It wasn't worth it. The art i...

Best one shot so far! 0

The intention of these One-Shots seems to be to fill in back story for the main story.  Showing the motivations of the characters in the story.  This one shot is the epitome of this.  I also really loved the art in this issue.  But I would say that the art across all of the Shadowlands issues is of the same high quality.  I can only hope that all these one shots and side stories appear the inevitable collected graphic novel.  I love Elektra and this story is a really good one, even if it is a...

    The Big Catch-UP 0

This one shot may slow you down and scratch your head.  Maybe its Emma Rios' art or  Zeb Wells' framing of the story but  the flashbacks and telling whats going on presently as you read this issue became a job for me on my first initial read and impression of this Shadowland tie in. I had to read this issue twice before i felt like it fit in SHADOWLAND and go over DareDevil Shadowland issues to figure out where aach scene belongs chronologically. Now I get it ! This issue comes after DareDevil ...
