With this issue the title turns to the horror-fantasy genre. Johnny Peril takes centre stage. Little was known about Johnny Peril, and even his name was likely to be an alias. What readers did know was that Peril was a high-risk adventurer who got involved in mysteries of an unusual nature. He had first appeared in Comic Cavalcade #22 in August 1947 before his move to Sensation Comics. In his first issue as a lead feature, Peril starred in a supernatural tale called, "The Sinister Jack in the box" which was illustrated by Alex Toth.
