Devil's Due
The Six head out to rescue Liana from her sadistic captor, violence ensues. Oh yeah, Bane also goes out on a date, where hilarity (and violence) ensues.
The Good
Love, love, love, love Luvisi's cover. Truly iconic and poster worthy.
The Six are not heroes, by any stretch of the imagination and the way they deal with the man who kidnapped Liana clears this up for anybody who may've been wondering if going merc had dull their edges. Deadshot really shines during these pages as he lays it all out for the would be saver of souls. Everybody get's their chance to work him over real nice before Liana steps in and asks them not to kill him. Her motivation for her decision really resonated with me.
To call Scandal tough would be the understatement of the century, but after it's all said and done she shows a rare moment of vulnerability. It seems even hardened killers need a crying shoulder and a pair of open arms.
This is a pretty heavy issue that explores the psychological effects that the visit to hell had on the Six. It was nice to have a little comic relief provided by King Shark.
Bane Goes out on a date with Spencer and he reveals a little about his past to her. The juxtaposition of grim, brooding Bane with the joyous atmosphere of a carnival provides room for both comedy and tragedy.
Scandal and Ragdoll have a much needed heart to heart. Their convo really made aware of the inner turmoil that Merkel tries to hide fro the others. It's moments like this that make this series as great as it is. The way Simone has developed these individual characters and their relationships is nothing short of masterful.
The resurrection of Knockout leaves Scandal in a position most precarious. Jeanette offers Scandal a bit of comfort and I liked the way that her words here mirror the lullaby she sings to Liana at the beginning of the issue.
The Bad
Deadshot mentions that it wasn't an easy task to track down Liana's location, but Blake got the job done. I'm a show not tell type of guy. Don't tell me a character's good at something or a bad ass. SHOW IT TO ME IN THE STORY!!!
Lantern Banner/Super 8 add, I guess that's gonna be a thing for a while.
Definitely not the point to jump on.
The Verdict
Buy This Comic!!!
Last issue ended in a rather awkward place, especially for the end of an arc. This one definitely feels like the proper end to the last arc. After so much action that's been going on in the series lately it's nice to see the Six taking a moment to breathe and reflect on it all.
