Secret Invasion 6
Probably my least favourite issue of this mini-series to date. I have to say that I've genuinely enjoyed Secret Invasion, but then I'm a big fan of both Bendis and Yu. This issue felt a little like a 'holder', with the writer lining up things in place for, perhaps, a big finish. There's more stuff from the Skrulls addressing mankind and all the heroes are gathering in New York for one big, bad fight. On that latter point, I sincerely hope issue 7 isn't just one big battle - I always find those things kinda underwhelming - I prefer small details and stuff revealed in dialogue and individual confrontations. Bendis and Yu had a big fight issue fairly recently in New Avengers and that was one of my least favourite issues of their run. Like Ego, I really enjoyed Yu's big splash pages at the end of this issue - he has a terrific manic energy to his art that I really enjoy. I know not everyone likes him but I think he's the business. My favourite Yu idiosyncracy? The way he draws red bloodlines around his character's eyes. Don't ask me why I like it, I just do. Maybe it's because nobody else does it. One interesting point that I won't elaborate on for those who haven't read it - we find out who 'He' refers to in this issue (from He Loves You). Although it's kind of obvious, it's still interesting in that as a reader, you're thinking, "Ah, so Bendis is going down that road with all this." Put it this way, he's maybe been influenced by Richard Dawkins in his thinking about who influences all kinds of warfare. It'll be interesting to see how much more Bendis does with this.
