Review: Secret Avengers #8
One of Steve's old war buddies is working with Max Fury and the Shadow Council
The Good
I know the name Max Fury is incredibly cheesy, but I love the character, and I love his team. It's his story and team that I am more interested in. The Shadow Council stuff is pretty darn cool and the perfect antagonist for the Secret Avengers. John Steele seems like a perfect fit to the Shadow Council, and the guy is a great character. I love the art work on this book as well. It really helps the covert-op feel of the book, and works well with Brubaker's writing. I've been loving the fights scenes in this issue as well. They don't get over-the-top, like many comic do. There's a realism within the violence, which centers the book. The Bad
For a more covert ops team, they certainly fight out in public a bit. My main problem is that the book doesn't really feel grounded. The team line-up is great, the idea for the book is great, but mystic ninjas, aliens on mars? I thought it be rooted a bit more in reality. I was hoping the threats wouldn't be so out there, much like the first 24 issues of Brubaker's run on Captain America. The whole mysticism side-story thing is throwing me off a bit.The Verdict 4/5 - Recommended
Ok jumping on point. My problems are minor, and this book continues to be strong. It's a great covert-ops type of book, and it works so well with Steve Rogers leading the team. I can actually say, without a doubt, that after he came back from the dead, Steve doing this is better than Steve in the Cap suit. Although it's part two to this storyline, you shouldn't have any problem picking this up and enjoying it.
