Valkyrie shows she brave and has a heart.
Secret Avengers #14
So here is the 2nd issue of Secret Avengers that serves as a tie-in for Fear itself. UMM I really don't have anything to say before this review but......oh whatever I hope you all enjoy! This issue revolves around two things. The first being this relationship between a man and a woman working with this like the air forces and the army. The other part to this issue is how their relationship affects Valkyrie and it reminds her of her past. The man dies in battle and the woman wants him to have a dignified burial because she loved him. This reminds Valkyrie of when she lost her love in war and wanted him burried. Out of respect Valkyrie carries the man's corpse through the war. Well that's basically what the issue was although I enjoyed it.
The GOOD!
I really love how Spencer connects the loss of the woman's lover to Valkyrie's loss of her lover in the past. It just worked so well and I kept wanting to see how they connected next. This issue feels somewhat of a character development for Valkyrie and that she is compassionate and cares for people. She's not just this Asgardian ass hole that looks down upon people. She connects with human emotion. The action in this issue was also very good.
Art: I really enjoyed the art for this issue. It was bold. The cover was also awesome because of the way she is drawn.
The BAD!
Ok so the army couple's relationship seemed pretty unrealistic and a bit out of a Tom Cruise/Debra Winger movie but hey what can you do. What I also didn't like is how this didn't feel like a fear itself tie-in. That's the problem with big story arcs they try to incorporate too many issues and in many of the issues it has no affect on the big picture.
The VERDICT!
I enjoyed this issue very much and say pick it up! 4.5 out of 5!
