I haven’t had the chance to read any of the SCOTT PILGRIM books yet, but it makes me feel good to see how much attention this original indy comic’s getting from the global popular consciousness. And I suppose there’s no flashier way to get a crowd’s eyes on a movie based on that comic than decorating half of a hotel with its poster? Edgar Wright started the day by posting a “Twitpic” of the massive SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD edifice that’s being erected on San Diego’s Hilton hotel in preparation for Comic Conright now, at this very moment. Actually, if you want to have some fun, you can view the progress of its assembly here, here and here.
The final volume of the “epically epic” hexalogy, SCOTT PILGRIM’S FINEST HOUR, will soon be hitting stores on the most auspicious of all dates for a comic to debut - - the first day of SDCC. As we mentioned, there are even going to be some TWILIGHT-style midnight sales in stores all across the country. == TEASER ==
And what about the other five volumes? The best a comic could hope to get out of the release of its movie adaption is greater attention on the original books - - that’s certainly what these series has been getting. SCOTT PILGRIM'S PRECIOUS LITTLE LIFE, SCOTT PILGRIM GETS IT TOGETHER, SCOTT PILGRIM & THE INFINITE SADNESS as well as SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD and VS. THE UNIVERSE have all been on the New York Times' “Paperback Graphic Books” bestsellers list, jockeying with the likes of V FOR VENDETTA, WATCHMEN and FINAL CRISIS (and thanks to Bleeding Cool for the head's up.)
Anyway, I maintain my confidence in this movie being the big sleeper hit of the year. Keep checking out the official SCOTT PILGRIM Twitter feed as the hysteria continues.
