Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life
That. Was. AWESOME! Now this review will probably (and rightfully) make the book seem like the holy grail of comics (which I might be) but before I get to the positives, I’ll do the (very few) negatives… okay on second thought, the biggest negative thing I can think of is that sometimes characters look a but wonky, but that’s probably the point. And… okay that’s really my only knock against this book. Now, on to the positives; first off O’Malley’s writing is funny, witty and really damn good. Every character is unique and has their own “voice” which is pretty difficult to do when you’re writing for so many characters that no one else has done before. O’Malley’s art is just as good as his writing, something that very few people can do. It is in black and white, but it is still really good looking and the ink job is fantastic. The plot is really unique and interesting and I genuinely wanted to know what was going to happen next. And one thing that I really like about this book is all of the video game references. On almost every page there’s something game related, from Scott’s band being called “Sex Bob-Omb” to Ramona using a “sub space” highway. If you like video games and comics, or even if you just like one of those, you have to go out and buy this book. Run, don’t walk.
