Scott Lobdell did most of his writing for Marvel Comics in the 1990's mainly writing X-Men related comic books. Along with artist Chris Bachalo, Lobdell co-created the successful series Generation X in the 1990's. In addition, he co-created Dr. Cecilia Reyes for X-Men (vol. 2) in 1997. He also wrote for several other Marvel series such as the Fantastic Four, Alpha Flight and Excalibur. Besides his work for Marvel he has written for WildStorm and Image comics.

In December 2010 after former co-worker Bob Harras being hired as DC Comics' Editor-in-Chief, Lobdell was brought in to write for DC for it's line wide relaunch in September 2011. Lobdell's first three titles in the New 52 were, Red Hood and The Outlaws, Teen Titans and Superboy. However, in June 2012, DC Comics announced Lobdell will pen his final Superboy story with issue 12 and take over Superman starting with September's 0 issue. He will be joined by artist Kenneth Rocafort, whom he currently works with on Red Hood and The Outlaws.
