Back in the day was one of the top games on the market due to the crazy moves, unique characters and of course the over-the-top violence and gore. After a rocky start when the series made the jump to 3D things settled a bit on the PS2 era with a nice series of games but they were still missing that edge we loved from the MK series and they felt a bit predictable.
Then after being promised of a reboot of the franchise that would be darker and more in tune with the MK roots we got . Say what you will about the quality of the game, which as a whole was fine, but it wasn’t the MK game we all wanted.
Now we have a look at the MK game that would’ve surely pleased all of us as former Midway employee Vincent Proce has posted some images he made for a MK reboot pitch that are simply bad-ass.
Vincent’s pitch revolved around a complete update of the franchise with existing characters getting a makeover and slightly reworked storylines. Instead of just being a Special Forces agent Sonya Blade was reworked to be a daughter of a Texas Ranger who uses her sex appeal to distract her foes. And with the outfit Sonya is wearing I can see how people would be easily distracted.
But my favorite out of the four pieces of concept art that were posted is Scorpion. Seeing my favorite yellow ninja as a deadly looking wraith wearing yellow demon blood really makes me want to punch the person at Midway who decided to pass on this pitch.
Vincent’s reimaging of the MK franchise also had a focus on multiplayer and new game mechanics like dismemberment (I think I can hear Corey crying over this news already).
Since Vincent no longer works at Midway we’ll ever see a MK game that looks like this which is a damn shame. We can only hope that the team at Midway Chicago is crafting a new MK game that gives us something like this along with a refined combat engine.
