Shana O'Hara, Code Name:Scarlett was the 1st woman to join the GI Joe Team. She is one of it's deadliest members, skilled at Commando Ops, assassination and the Martial Arts. A weapons expert, she prefers her XK-1 Power Crossbow. She is also the girlfriend of Snake Eyes.
In comparison to other members of the G.I. Joe team her origin is less eventful. She original comes from Atlanta, Georgia, where she attended university and graduated law school before joining the army. Despite her educational background she decided to enlist as opposed to taking a commission. Nonetheless she proceeded quickly through the ranks, to Master Sergeant. She is often shown in flashbacks as either a weapons instructor or hand-to-hand combat instructor for the earliest incarnations of the team. She is also one of the founding members of the team.
The character was originally created as the primary female hero in the G.I. Joe toy line from Hasbro. As the toys grew in popularity it was decided to base a comic on them. She was first seen in comics in the Marvel version of G.I. Joe, in a series labeled G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero . She appeared in the first issue in 1982.
One of the most dependable and longest serving members of the G.I. Joe team. She has a high degree of loyalty to her teammates, and especially to Snake Eyes with him she shares a special bond. This bond occasionally progresses further to one of a romantic liaison.
The first major appearance of Scarlett and the team as whole was during the “Lady Doomsday” incident when Dr. Adele Burkhart was kidnapped by a group from Cobra. She was a member of the team that successfully freed her. She participated in a majority of the team’s missions since that time.
Like most characters in the G.I. Joe universe, Scarlett possesses no super abilities. She is adept at a variety of weapons, her favourite being a modified crossbow. She is also a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant. Her knowledge at tactics has been very useful to the team throughout her time with them.
Scarlett has generally shown up in other media whenever the G.I. Joe team has been present. However, this is generally based on the generic G.I. Joe character and not necessarily related to the comic character. In G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra she was portrayed by Rachel Nichols.
