Savage Dragon #137 (second print)
Pre-release sell out results in a limited edition second printing!
SAVAGE DRAGON's recent endorsement of Barack Obama heated up headlines from the New York Times to the Huffington Post and has led to a pre-release distributor-level sell out, resulting in an emergency second printing to meet demand.
"A lot of people have asked me whether or not Dragon would run again this election, but given its importance, I decided to have him bow out," said Savage Dragon creator Erik Larsen. "Given Dragon's history and the opinions he expressed during his own run, Obama really was the only candidate for Dragon to endorse, my own opinions aside."
The SAVAGE DRAGON #137 second printing will feature an altered version of the Barack Obama cover, including a new background and trade dress.
SAVAGE DRAGON #137 2ND PTG (JUL088177D), a 32-page full color comic book for $2.99, will be in stores September 10th, 2008.

Savage Dragon #137
Former Presidential candidate Savage Dragon puts in his endorsement for the Democratic nominee!
As reported in the New York Times, a former presidential candidate will give his endorsement for this years' race in SAVAGE DRAGON #137, as the titular character supports Democratic nominee, Barack Obama!
"Four years ago the Dragon was a reluctant presidential candidate," SAVAGE DRAGON creator Erik Larsen said. "Fans have asked if he'll be running again, but given the importance of the upcoming election it seemed appropriate that he would back Barack Obama, the candidate whose politics most reflect his own. Savage Dragon will be giving Barack Obama his full support."
Savage Dragon made his initial play for the presidential election in the 2004 campaign, but rescinded once the man claiming to be his running mate turned out to be Dreadknight, a supervillain bent on world domination. SAVAGE DRAGON #137 will sport a special 1:5 variant cover featuring Dragon formally endorsing the one candidate he is confident is not a potential nemesis, Barack Obama.
SAVAGE DRAGON #137 (DEC072099), a 32-page full color comic book for $2.99, will be available September 3rd, 2008. The full New York Times story may be read at http://themoment.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/14/geek-beat-savage-love/.

This is the stuff that fanboy's dreams are made of. Six issues written by
Robert Kirkman, penciled by
Todd McFarlane,
Marc Silvestri,
Rob Liefeld,
Jim Valentino,
Erik Larsen, and
While Portacio all at once. Starring
Spawn,
Cyberforce,
Witchblade,
Youngblood,
ShadowHawk(s) I &
Fortress
II, Savage Dragon, and Portacio's newest creation - Fortress. Plus guest appearances galore by Spawn's villains, The
Darkness, etc.
I can't explain it any better than Kirkman did here:
"Each artist is going to do the layouts for one issue," Kirkman explained. "Those guys will get the script for the issue and they'll be the one breaking it down into pages. Then once the story's laid out, they're going to be mailed all over the country, and everybody's going to be drawing their characters onto the pages. This is the future. It's going to be a lot of work, and I don't know -- maybe we'll have to give FedEx a credit in the book. But this just shows that anything can be done. "
I'm pretty sure nothing like this has been attempted before, from the couple pages I've seen (below), it looks pretty seamless. Its easily the biggest crossover/superhero event in a long, long time for Image. The thing that gets me even more excited is the possible reestablishment of the Image universe as one world (minus Jim Lee's creations and WetWorks obviously) where the characters interract with each other on a more regular basis than crossoverissues. Who knows maybe Chapel will get re-retconned into being the murderer of Al Simmons?

Who reads Savage Dragon? I used to really like the comic. I like how Erik Larsen made a deal with himself to continue working on it without missing deadlines, etc. He's really been serious about it. That's great that he still cares about his creation. I do have to admit that I haven't been reading it regularly. There was a time that I really needed to cut back on the amount of comics I was buying with the constant increase in price. Then after a while, I felt like I had missed too much to get back into it. I don't like missing things. If I miss the first few minutes of a movie, then I won't want to watch it. Guess I need one of those "jumping on points" that are always popping up. What I really need is more time to read all the good stuff out there.
