The Legion is made up of heroes from across the galaxy. The people of Titan are gifted telepaths and Imra Ardeen brings her abilities to the Legion as one of its founders.

As a child, Imra Ardeen displayed top-level telepathic abilities and was taken from her family to begin years of intense mental training with the best minds of Titan. She honed her abilities to scan and read sentient minds, communicate non-verbally with one or many, and gain limited control of another's mind and/or actions.

Imra gave up a promising career as Science Police officer to join the Legion. As Saturn Girl, her powers were tested to the extreme in confrontations with the warped minds of the Composite Man and Dr. Psycho.

Psychic inhibitors created by Imra's mentor Aven were removed from her subconscious. He had secretly installed them to help Imra adjust to her increasing telepathic powers. She feels they are no longer needed, if indeed they ever were.

Years of solitary training made it hard for Imra to relate with others, but time with the Legion has helped her open up and make friends.

Formation of the Legion

While en route from Titan (a moon of Saturn) to Earth to join the Science Police, Imra telepathically detected a plot to assassinate inventor R.J. Brande. Working with Rokk Krinn of Braal (Cosmic Boy) and Garth Ranzz of Winath (Lightning Lad), the youngsters foiled the plot. Impressed with the trio of young heroes, Brande formed the Legion Of Super-Heroes.

Imra, newly dubbed Saturn Girl, discovered that she had not yet developed the mental shielding necessary to filter out the minds of those around her. During one mission, she shut down the mind of Composite Man, loosing her sanity in the process. The love of Garth Ranzz helped heal her mind and soon after she accepted his proposal of marriage.

Lost Legion

Both Imra and Garth were among the Legionnaires stranded in another galaxy. She used her abilities to keep her team mates calm by creating a psychic projection of Apparition. When the deception was discovered, she lost the trust of her teammates and resigned as leader.

In the current series, Titanians now only communicate telepathically, having lost their vocal cords to evolution. Thus, Imra now only communicates by broadcasting her thoughts with the illusion of sound. However, only Lightning Lad seems to be aware of the fact that she's not really speaking. In any situation where telepathy is useless, Imra is rendered mute. Her mother is on the council of the United Planets.  When the Legion was dealing with a ghost like Mon-El, Imra was able to hear his cries for help via telepathy, making her instrumental in the locating him.

After her encounter with Mon-El, Saturn Girl attempted to start a relationship with Lightning Lad, whom she has flirted with since the beginning of the series. Since then they have begun a rocky relationship, greatly strained, ever since Garth became the leader of the Legion (after the disappearance of Cosmic Boy). As of late, Imra has been shown to be taking a more leading role in the Legion ranks, even leading two separate missions.

On her first mission, Imra assembled her team, consisting of: Star Boy, Timber Wolf, and Invisible Kid. They were sent to the moon of Triton to help evacuate the populace from an extraterrestrial invasion. Unfortunately the invasion began earlier than they expected, and they were forced to deal with the invaders. Saturn Girl proved to be a good addition to the team, dealing with multiple aliens. Unfortunately the aliens began to adapt to their variety of powers. But to no surprise they were able to defeat their opponents, suffering only minor injuries.

On her second mission, Saturn Girl led a team consisting of Atom Girl, Ultra Boy, Chameleon, Colossal Boy, and Star Boy to Rimbor to fight more invading aliens, first seen in her previous mission and now known to be called the Destroyers. While on the planet, the Legion was attacked by the Science Police, looking to capture legionnaire Ultra Boy. Luckily for Ultra Boy, the team was not willing to give up a member of their ranks. In the process of protecting him, they became fugitives. Knowing that they couldn't hold off their attackers forever, the Legionnaires retreated, attempting to make it back to the teleportation pad.

Powers & Abilities

Saturn Girl (original) is a powerful telepath who can cast illusions, cause sedation, stun or kill people mentally with powerful mind bolts, cause physical damage with psionic objects, and even cause paralysis or cause someone to be in a catatonic state. She can block mental intrusions and manipulate someone into doing her will, just by sheer willpower.  She has the ability to attack her enemies' minds with intense blasts of psionic energy, and can also create a telekinetic shield of psionic energy, which she uses to block powerful attacks. She can use thought blasts to mentally stun people or destroy their minds., though this is only under immense pressure and stress. She could also project her mind onto the astral plane.  Saturn Girl is arguably one of the most powerful telepaths in the DC Universe.

Saturn Girl made regular television appearances after the Legion of Super-Heroes received their own animated series. She was voiced by actress Kari Wahlgren.  In addition to her telepathic powers, she is shown to be a very formidable hand-to-hand combatant, more so than in other continuities. This Saturn Girl has a more exotic appearance than the previous animated version and her costume has a pink color scheme, which even extends to the color of her eyes.
