History
William Baker started out as a young boy with a troubled life. His Dad had left when he was young and his Mom was a drunk that worked cleaning other peoples houses just to keep what was left of their family together. He would always try to get his Mom to take to him to Conney Island Beach were he would make amazing sand castles. Which would rarely happen because she always was absorbed in her drink. After trying to get his Mom to see his creations, he would sit and watch as the ocean waves slowly eroded his castle. Thinking how much that was just like his life. That nothing good ever lasted. Unlike other boys he could never just shrug it off and move on he was determined to find a way to make something that would last forever.
As a somewhat older boy he developed a crush on a teacher of his named Miss Flint that he would make beautiful standing sand sculptures for. On the day he learned that she just got engaged to her boyfriend who was a stockbroker. The news off which crushed him. He asked her saying it was just off hand if he made a lot of money. She thought it odd but she said he did. That when he proved to him self that only the rich guy's get the girls, especially the pretty ones. Staying in the room to mope that school bullies led by Vic came in and followed to destroy his work and pound on him as he just sat and took it. He snuck home after that, where his Mom followed to apologize. Saying if only she would have been able to keep a husband he would know how to defend himself, which only made him made saying that "he would make them all see". At that age he practically came and went to the beach when ever he wonted to. He would watch the water and sand and how it worked so the next time Vic and his gang tried something he showed them. He learned that guys respected and Feared that power, and how the girls were attracted to it and Vic soon fold him. But there was always someone higher up that would dump on him.
In High School he had a new name Flint, and he learned to channel that anger he would get in trouble if he did the beating in school but if it was in football and people would love you for it. His now buddy Vic came to him on time in trouble with the Mob. He said they would kill him but if he trough a couple of games that they would let him off. So to save his friend he did thinking no one would really notice, but his couch did and gave him a peace of his mind. Then Flint showed him exactly what he thought of him. Thats when he turned to crime. On his first time in prison he finally got to meet his Dad, and he would keep coming back to be with him but not telling him who he was. One time he was sent in but his Dad had gotten out, so he went after him. He was caught by the blast of a radio-active bomb bonded his body to the sand. Realizing what he could now do he when to see his girlfriend Marcy's, how was always waiting for him along with Vic when he got out of prison. But what he found was not what he had expected. Marcy had been having a secret affair with Vic. That was the last peace. The old him would have killed them right there, but he didn't, even though he showed his rage. They where now to small for him to care about. He was now the Sandman. The super powered supervillian that everyone would now fear.
Life
Although he pulled many schemes to earn cash, Spider-Man stopped him every time. He grew to hate Spidey and want cash. Joining the Sinister Six, he became a frequent enemy of Spider-Man, the Hulk, and Daredevil. In a fight with Hydro-Man, he was mixed with him into a mud monster. He was finally seperated and joined new iterations of the Sinister Six and Sinister Twelve. He fought with Venom, who took a bite out of him and caused his death-or so it would seem. Sandman survived, got a new lease on life, and now fights on the side of good. He was even recruited to be a reserve member of the Avengers, but has had trouble fitting in with them.
Recently, some hack writer decided to make him a villain again, so Wizard arbitrarily brainwashed Sandman into a bad guy once again. Screw the fans! Character development? What's that?
Powers
Sandman can turn any or all of his body into sand. Even if his head is sand, he retains conscious thought at all times. This makes him nearly impossible to hit, as he can make his body sand and the shot will go through him. He can harden the sand, which means he can form huge sand weapons as hard as battle axes to attack with his arms. This also gives him super strength.
Alternate Realities
Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610)
Sandman of the Ultimate universe is a villain of Spider-Man. His birth name is Flint Marko and is one of the failed experiments of industrialist Justin Hammer to recreate the Super Soldier Serum. After Hammer is killed by Doctor Octopus, agents of SHIELD are going to confiscate all of Justin's experiment and Flint use this as an opportunity to escape. He wrecked havok in New Jersey, but was defeated by Spider-Man and captured by SHIELD. In prison, he met the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Electro and Kraven The Hunter. They all broke free and kidnap Spider-Man to force him to join them and form the Ultimate Six. In an attack in the White House, Sandman was defeated by Iron Man. Sandman was later sealed in separate jars and kept frozen to prevent him to forming again by SHIELD.

Sandman of the Marvel Zombies universe was turned into a zombie. He is seen with other Spider-Man villains attacking Magneto and Wolverine attempting to kill the remaining humans evacuating in a SHIELD carrier.

Sandman of Earth-398 was known as Quarryman and was a member of the Queen's Vengeance.
Spider-Man: Reign
Sandman is a member of the Sinner Six, the late version of the Sinister Six. When his daughter is killed, he helped Spider-Man to kill the Six, Venom and all the symbiotes in New York.
