SDCC Meet-Up Information

Posted by Riezner (417 posts) - - Show Bio
Hey cool kids!

No Comic-Con is complete without a Comic Vine meet-up. The team spends their crazy packed days flying around the convention floor, sitting on panels, and shooting video, but we make it a point to squeeze in some time to see you, our beloved users.

This year, we're heading back to the same spot we picked last year, Sloppy Joey's at 548 5th Ave in San Diego. We're planning on being their at 8pm on Friday night and will be hanging out for about an hour or so. You'll know you're in the right place if you see me outside. I'll be hanging out front letting people know where to go. Remember this face. Don't you forget it.

Of course, the finest laid plans can go awry. Be sure to follow me on twitter @Riezner where I'll be updating everyone if something changes.

We're all really looking forward to meeting you if we haven't, and seeing some of our old friends we met last year. Let us know in the comments below if you'll be joining us!

I will be getting off work on Friday from the Convention Center at 8pm. I'll come down and hang out again.

These always seem like such a cool thing.
I'd just feel awkward showin' up when I'm not even going to the con!

@ImperiousRix: You better show up, whether you're attending the con or not!

@Icarusflies: What a bummer! Be sure to find us on the floor then, okay?

I didn't go to the con last year but I went to the meet-up anyways because I live in San Diego. Thats how @sora_thekey and I became good friends. This year, I work at the Convention Center so I'll be at the Con selling food.

@TheMess1428:  Any chance you can give us a discount this year?  Paying $10 for a sandwich is a bit much :) j/k

This is the first time for me going to Comic Con. I'm from Massachusetts and this is also the first time I'm going to California. I have no idea what to expect, any tips?

P.S I will try and make it but it is the same time as the Batman Year One premiere that I really wanted to go to

ALSO, remember this face because he will probably spend his time being the guy´s (who is hanging out front letting people know where to go) bodyguard! :P @Riezner:

Drink lots of water, it's pretty hot here now. (I live in San Diego).

Bring very comfortable shoes, maybe 2 sets :)

And a backpack or something to carry stuff in. The bags you get at Comic Con are big enough to stuff 2 or 3 people in and they are very hard to wear/carry through large crowds, especially since everyone else has a huge bag, too.

Our ground-level light rail is called a "trolley". However, it looks nothing like a San Fransisco trolley. Calling it a "train" or "subway" will get you lost or sent to the actual Amtrak station.  If you're taking the trolley, there are colored lines (blue line, green line, etc.). All of the cars are red, so if someone says take the blue trolley, they mean blue line trolley not blue colored trolley. (all cars are red, or will have big adverts pasted on them). This is the thing that confuses most visitors when asking for directions.

If you're an old movie fan, the "Top-Gun bar" is directly across the street from SDCC (also stands for San Diego Convention Center and SD Comic Con). It's the bar where Goose played the piano and they sung the song. It's pretty cool place and has good BBQ.

Taxi's don't stop on the curb. It's not like NYC here. All taxis have waiting locations where they'll wait for you. I've seen east coasters try to hail a cab from curb and it doesn't really work that way here. There's just not enough cabs, compared to NYC. You might get lucky, but most of the time cabs on the street will already have a passenger. It's easier to find the taxi queue and just get in line there.

You can try your luck with a pedi-cab (guy/girl on bike pulling a cart/chair behind them). Be careful, 2 or 3 years ago, some guy killed a passenger on July 4th because he was going too fast and into traffic, old lady fell out and got ran over. The vast majority of the drivers aren't familiar with the city (they come here for summer from overseas on school visas) or traffic laws. I'd never recommend anyone hoping into one of those things, unless you're young and drunk and wouldn't really feel any pain if you got ran over by a truck/car.

My boss/office is mostly from Boston area, so I've been back there a few times. If you have any questions, just drop me a PM or ask here.

Gosh I sure would love to tag along if I could! Well, maybe something will happen yet to where I can. Who knows!

#17 Posted by Rayeth (5 posts) - - Show Bio

Will attempt to be there. Con plans are notoriously hard to keep, but assuming I'm not somehow already drunk, I should be there to hangout with you awesome folks.

True story.

@ImperiousRix: Who cares... The more the merrier! Just make a fake SDCC ID badge, arrive and hang out! :P jk It's not like we are checking who went to the con or not dude! :)

@Icarusflies: We NEED to see YOU! So if you are not at Sloppy Joey's... BANNED! jk. See you on the floor! I'll be the one following those people on the picture!

@ArtisticNeedham: @Rayeth: Yay!

@NightFang: That's why I love standing next to her! Makes little ol' me look tall! n_n

@mavericksfan41: All the suggestions james gave you is great. Also, remember Deodorant! You'll need it believe me! Alsom as for the Batman: Year One premiere... Think of it this way. Batman: Year One will be on DVD/Blu-Ray some day, we won't so if you miss us on the SDCC floor you might end up missing us completely because you didn't go to Sloppy's.

Holding myself up, I was on my tippy-toes because I'm short and I wanted someone else, for once, to be shorter than me.
