Gotta give it up to cosplayers and the comic book community for putting hateful folks in their place.

Bleeding Cool has a ton of pictures from the counter-protest to the Westboro Baptist Church's hateful protest plans.  Even better, Comics Alliance has GAIL SIMONE ON VIDEO DENOUNCING THE WBC PROTEST!!!

A great job to all involved.  My favorite sign of the event?  "I'm Commander Shepherd, and this is my favorite protest on the Citadel".

    Here's that video of Gail:

LAWL  I think it's funny that they only have, like, seven people protesting...

...in comparison to the close-to-100 people counter-protesting.

    Majority wins?

The   Westboro Baptist Church absolutely disgusts me. They aren't even a church, they are a hate group. If you are anything besides a member of their 'church', they hate you and you are going to burn in hell. I hate that I have to be reminded of their existence on my favorite website. Although the counter protests are hilarious, they will do no good because the church members, specifically Shirley Phelps-Roper, are despicable brain washed human beings that believe a vengeful god hates everybody besides them.

@Emperor Gonzo Noir: what is it with these bastards don`t they have lives of their own , hell god is`tn everything . every time their is something that does not align with what they believe they damn it to hell , f*** if they don`t like a persons personal preference of enjoyment they should go and stick a ****** up their tight religious a**** and wiggle the mutha until they find some real enjoyment outside of what god wants them to champion against , hell if they hate godlessness so much why don`t they fight in the middle east . maybe god will strike them down in the crossfire ( maybe not ) all I am trying to say is god does not give the others the right to boycott small little trivial things in other people lives , I they deserve to burn in hell or purgatory for all I care shh.  can some body tell these hateful bastards to go home and get a life ( maybe enjoy it a little !)

I quite liked the Keith Allen documentary.

Keith Allen: "I've read that your group has been waning in popularity lately."

WBC member: "Well that just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything you read"

    Keith Allen: "EXACTLY!"

The best counter-protest to the WBC is to just ignore them. This sort of attention is exactly what they are looking for, and is the reason they still exist at all. In other words: Don't feed the trolls.

    @Korg:
usually I would agree with this
but I think doing something like this, which will garnish media attention, may actually help show poeple just how crazy and hated the WBC is by most "regular" people
because as sad as it sounds, there are folks out there who agree with them
and they need to know they're WRONG
but I still agree that ignoring them is the best corse of action most of the time

@Shadowdoggy: They've been getting plenty of media attention for over 5 years at this point. That is exactly what they want. A (free) platform to spew their hate to the world from. All this "counter-protest" does is allow them to divvy up and protest soldiers' funerals as well as a Comic Con with minimal effort. They had fewer than 10 people there. It would have been easy to ignore them, instead of feeding into their cycle of hate and stupidity. Instead, people give them exactly what they want in spades. That's the sad part.

They can be seen clearly in the video where Simone is interviewed.

They're far from the first, and I'm sure they won't be the last. It's a nice sentiment, I guess, but it's also incredibly short-sighted.

    it is short-sighted, I agree
but all I can say, is that as an angry gay dude, I wouldn't be able to not say or do something
even if I was probably shooting myself in the foot at the same time
    I'd jsut have to
I just can't abide by it
I should probably work on that though
it might cut down on the number of people I punch in the face in the course of a week

Yes, if that means I haven't heard of it. Forgive me if I confuse your tricky question. Believe it or not, I am Baptist myself, but I am not doing that like insane Westboro Baptist did. I wish I could be there and tell them that if they are doing it just because they are against the law of God and they practically show the hatred they protest the comic people and other people if they are doing a very bad thing in which it is not their business to know or judge. It wasn't their intention to do that.  Haven't they forgotten the famous words never die for eternity--Do Not Judge? I know they are wrong and doing wrong.

@Joey809: except for the Crusades, Spanish inquisition and when missionaries would give natives small pox infested blankets and the Salem witch trials, etc, etc, etc seriously dude all religions have good and bad things about them, ignoring the past doesn't mean it didn't happen.
