Gotta give it up to cosplayers and the comic book community for putting hateful folks in their place.
Bleeding Cool has a ton of pictures from the counter-protest to the Westboro Baptist Church's hateful protest plans. Even better, Comics Alliance has GAIL SIMONE ON VIDEO DENOUNCING THE WBC PROTEST!!!
A great job to all involved. My favorite sign of the event? "I'm Commander Shepherd, and this is my favorite protest on the Citadel".
Here's that video of Gail:

Westboro Protest of SDCC Met With Awesome Counter-Protest
LAWL I think it's funny that they only have, like, seven people protesting..." Ever wonder what internet trolls would be like in real life. Westboro Baptist Church. "
...in comparison to the close-to-100 people counter-protesting.
Majority wins?

Power to the nerds, man. We are like Legion, for we are many.
The Westboro Baptist Church absolutely disgusts me. They aren't even a church, they are a hate group. If you are anything besides a member of their 'church', they hate you and you are going to burn in hell. I hate that I have to be reminded of their existence on my favorite website. Although the counter protests are hilarious, they will do no good because the church members, specifically Shirley Phelps-Roper, are despicable brain washed human beings that believe a vengeful god hates everybody besides them.
just to be clear the people who believe that a big invisible (apparently bi polar) guy in the sky created the whole universe in seven days and had a kid that could walk on water and turn water into wine and all that have a problem with super heros? i cant be the only one who finds that odd
I quite liked the Keith Allen documentary.
Keith Allen: "I've read that your group has been waning in popularity lately."
WBC member: "Well that just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything you read"
Keith Allen: "EXACTLY!"

LOL I believe in God, and I approve this message. Seriously. :)
usually I would agree with this
but I think doing something like this, which will garnish media attention, may actually help show poeple just how crazy and hated the WBC is by most "regular" people
because as sad as it sounds, there are folks out there who agree with them
and they need to know they're WRONG
but I still agree that ignoring them is the best corse of action most of the time
yeah, but there wasn't a single shot of them in that entire article
dont' get me wrong, I agree with what you're saying
but I'm still glad someone stood up to them in such a public way
"there wasn't a single shot of them in that entire article"They can be seen clearly in the video where Simone is interviewed.

it is short-sighted, I agree
but all I can say, is that as an angry gay dude, I wouldn't be able to not say or do something
even if I was probably shooting myself in the foot at the same time
I'd jsut have to
I just can't abide by it
I should probably work on that though
it might cut down on the number of people I punch in the face in the course of a week
hmmm......
Wow. that is odd to see christians protesting.You... uh.... haven't heard of Wesboro Baptist, have you?
Yes, if that means I haven't heard of it. Forgive me if I confuse your tricky question. Believe it or not, I am Baptist myself, but I am not doing that like insane Westboro Baptist did. I wish I could be there and tell them that if they are doing it just because they are against the law of God and they practically show the hatred they protest the comic people and other people if they are doing a very bad thing in which it is not their business to know or judge. It wasn't their intention to do that. Haven't they forgotten the famous words never die for eternity--Do Not Judge? I know they are wrong and doing wrong.

Interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church
@TheCrowbar: I dont think of that way about googling them and do agree with you about shenanigans.
