Raised in a family with nine children Roy Gonzalez (and indeed his whole family) is one of the original surfer clans of the USA. His father, Dorian, gave up his medical practice in the early 1960's, bought a camper and started moving around to where the best surf was with his wive, Juliette, and ever growing family. The cramped camper took the family to 48 states and a couple of foreign countries. His father worked in hospitals and clinics along the way to pay for their lifestyle. For over twenty years the whole clan returned to San Onofre State Beach in California for the summer where the eldest children ran a surfing camp for ten weeks.
Both Salvador and Roy Gonzalez worked in the graphic design industry for many years designing T-shirts, beach towels and all sorts of other surfing and skating equipment. They decided to "do their own thing" and started Surf Crazed Comics which lasted for six issues.
