    Salem is Sabrina's pet in the Archie Comics universe. In the original comic books, Salem is an ordinary orange-furred cat who happens to have magical powers. In the live-action TV series, Salem is a warlock who was turned into a talking black cat for 100 years by the Witch's Council as punishment for trying to take over the world, with his status as pet part of his punishment. Modern comic reprints often re-color Salem from orange to black.

    In the original comic books, Salem is an interesting cross between a witch's familiar and a superpet, with plentiful magical powers but the personality and intelligence of an ordinary housecat.

    In the live-action TV series, Sabrina's pet cat who is a powerful wizard who has been transformed into a cat as a punishment. Eventually, he will turn back into a wizard or witch.
