Sagat is a huge Muay Thai champion from Thailand. Elite member of Shadaloo. Edit
Sagat is a huge Muay Thai champion from Thailand. The scar on his chest he got from Ryu after nearly defeating him in the finals of the first Street Fighter tournament.
Pre Street Fighter
Sagat's story starts when he was only a teenager. Sagat grew up in Thailand, where the style of fighting of Muay Tai was greatly revered. The title of Emperor of Muay Thai was the most honorable accolate a Muay Thai fighter could possibly recieve and the bearer of this title was seen as a national hero. Sagat challenged the reigning Emperor of Muay Thai, Nuah Kahn to a fight for his title. Sagat won the battle and became the new Emperor of Muay Thai. Sagat later defende his title of Emperor of Muay Thai against Go Hibiki (father of Dan Hibiki). Sagat won the battle and killed Go, losing his right eye in the process.
For many years Sagat was the champion of the street fighter tournaments, but Ryu ended his reign when the japanese fighter tapped into the satsu no hadou and beat the muay thai emperor. Giving him his trademark scar in the process.
The aftermath of the battle left Sagat a broken angry man, but a fight with his pupil, Adon, made him realise he should improve himself, thus he set out to sharpen his skills.
He met the legendary guru Dhalsim, who taught him that fighting is not just brute strength and physical skill, but that the mind is importan as well.
When Ryu came to seek lessons from Dhalsim as well, him and Sagat fought in a rematch. The giant thai had improved greatly and in Ryu's own words "his moves are quicker and more effortless". Ryu was quickly defeated.
Sagat thanked Dhalsim and headed back to Shadaloo to wait for the coming tournament, in which him and Ryu would have their 3rd match.
