Sabretooth is a mutant and is is the arch enemy of Wolverine.
Origin
Not a whole lot is known about the early life of Victor Creed. It is believed that he was severely abused and neglected as a child, most likely in the late 1800s.
Sabretooth & Wolverine
It was in the early 1910s that he apparently raped and killed a young Indian girl, Silver Fox, who was involved with the mutant known as Logan. Logan and Creed fought, not knowing that Silver Fox had survived and would reenter their lives later.
Creed next popped up in the 1960s working for Team X, which was run by the C.I.A. The team also consisted of Logan, going by the name Wolverine, and Silver Fox. None had any recollection of their previous encounter due to false memory implants placed in their minds.
It was on a mission that Wolverine and Sabretooth developed their hatred towards each other. For many years Wolverine was unable to beat Sabretooth, and was defeated every time they fought. It's only recently they have begun to meet as equals. It was also at this time that Creed became involved with an agent from another organization. He was unaware that she was really the mutant shape-shifter, Mystique. She had seduced Creed and became pregnant with his child. The child would grow up to be the non-mutant, Graydon Creed, who would later become an anti-mutant activist.
Sabretooth's first superhero conflict came about after he kidnapped a famous attorney who was rescued by the hero known as Iron Fist.
Later he was contacted by the mutant Gambit to join a team called the Marauders who would answer to the evil geneticist, Mr. Sinister. The Marauders were responsible for the massacre of the Morlocks, an underground group of mutants.
Sabretooth continued to have several run-ins with Wolverine and his team, the X-Men. Later he turned up in the government group known as X-Factor. He had to wear an inhibitor collar that severely shocked him if he tried to attack his teammates or remove it. Unbeknown to his X-Factor teammates, however, Sabretooth had actually been planted as a sleeper agent by the government's Hound program, and he had been given orders to kill his teammates if they became seen as uncontrollable. Eventually overcoming his collar, Sabretooth aggressively mauled several members of X-Factor before escaping.
Sabretooth, searching for a more fulfilling hunt, then chased the Wendigo to Isle Dupree. Sabretooth then caught it, but not before it had managed to kill nearly everyone in town. After a ferocious battle, Sabretooth walked away with the Wendigo's pelt around his shoulders.
Recently Sabretooth sought refuge with the X-Men after a battle with a new group of super-beings known as the Children of the Vault, after the X-Men defeated the Children of the Vault Sabretooth was kept in custody, but he escaped on Cable's island Providence. There he fought Deadpool for a long time, and then Cable tossed him telekinetically far out in the ocean. After that he magically reappeared in the Xavier Institute and was behaving really odd, even for Sabretooth. For some reason he killed and ate Feral after which Sabretooth was decapitated by Wolverine with the Muramasa Blade.
Powers
Sabretooth is a mutant with many animal like powers. He he has enhanced senses (particularly smell), and has super human strength, speed, and reflexes. He has a healing factor similar to Wolverine's which allows him to heal from even lethal injuries and has allowed him to live for over 100 years.
His skeleton is coated with Adamantium, making his bones virtually indestructible. He also has razor sharp retractable claws instead of fingernails that are also coated in Adamantium, making them able to slash through almost anything.
Sabretooth is a skilled at hand to hand combat, and with his healing factor and adamantium laced bones he is difficult to put down for very long.
Alternate Realities
Earth-295 - Exiles/AoA Sabretooth
Exiles Sabretooth
The Sabretooth from Earth-295 (Age of Apocalypse) is quite different from Earth-616's Sabretooth. He has a sense of morals and greater control over his feral side, and was a member of the X-Men. Sabretooth was also a father-figure of Blink whom he rescued from Dark Beast's laboratories.
When the Age of Apocalypse timeline almost was destroyed he got unhinged in time by the Timebroker and forced to lead their Weapon X team. On a later mission he rebelled against the team and decided to stay in the timeline they were to raise a young boy who they were assigned to kill. Several decades later the Exiles came on a mission to the same reality and he joined them.
Sabretooth has been on many missions with the Exiles, on one mission he was made into a herald of Galactus to stop a renegade Silver Surfer who had destroyed the earth. Afterwards he returned those powers.
He still remains with the Exiles, and currently wears the Tallus.
Powers
Identical to Earth-616 Sabretooth. Earth-295 Sabretooth also has an Adamantium skeleton. He is better than his 616 counterpart at unarmed combat.
Earth-1610 - Ultimate Sabretooth
Ultimate Sabretooth
Sabretooth was a mutant who believed that because men were crueler than animals, mutants should be crueler than men. He was recruited into Weapon X, a black ops section of S.H.I.E.L.D. Initially convinced into serving them, he eventually began to like the work, gaining some authority over the other captive mutants. Sabretooth instantly disliked Wolverine, who had similar powers, and has claimed that he killed Wolverine's wife and child. When Wolverine escaped Weapon X, Sabretooth was sent to bring him back. They fought in New York City before Wolverine escaped, thanks to Spider-Man's help.
After Wolverine joined the X-Men, Weapon X located Xavier's mansion base and attacked it, capturing all of the X-Men except Wolverine, who was not there. Weeks later, Wolverine was captured. Sabretooth, now enhanced with adamantium implants similar to Wolverine's but more extensive, took Wolverine outside the base to torment him by destroying files detailing the amnesiac Wolverine's past in front of him, unaware his rival had allowed himself to be captured so that Weapon X's location could be uncovered. A tracker implant within Wolverine led the Brotherhood of Mutants to the area to free the X-Men. Wolverine tricked an enraged Sabretooth in to cutting his bonds, and the two battled until Wolverine tackled him off a cliff. Wolverine regained consciousness first.
After Sabretooth recovered, he joined the Brotherhood of Mutants. Sabretooth again clashed with Wolverine, boasting he was bigger, stronger and could heal any wound Wolverine inflicted; in response, Wolverine decapitated him.
Sabretooth resurfaced, attacking Wolverine and Storm on a night away from the mansion and explaining that enough of his flesh was intact so that his healing factor was able to reattach his head to his body. Sabretooth also claimed to be Wolverine's son.

Earth X Sabretooth as a member of a half-beast clan along with Wolverine, Wild Child and Beast.

In the House of M, Sabretooth was sent by Magneto to send a message to Black Panther, which is more of a death threat. T'Challa replied by giving Magneto back the decapitated head of Sabretooth to him.
