The origin of the Rusty

Russel Collins began as a sailor in the US Navy. When a woman tried to kiss him, his powers activated, severely burning her. He got arrested but broke free when again his powers activated, but this time he couldn't turn them off. X-Factor tracked him down and took him in and trained him.

Some time later he became a target for Freedom Force, who were hunting him down. During a fight with them he met Skids who he had a crush on immediately. It would be too long after though, that his feelings would grow and he would fall in love with her. Russel got injured in the fight, which made Skids agree to stay with X-Factor to take care of him. They've been practically inseparable ever since.

Some time later X-Factor gained more trainee's and formed together the X-Terminators. Rusty with the X-Terminators helped the New Mutants during the Earth invasion known as Inferno, by saving mutant baby's. Afterwards he joined the New Mutants. Soon Rusty became a target again for Freedom Force, who attacked him and Skids. Another attempt was made to capture Rusty by Freedom Force in which he got severely injured by the Blob. While recovering in the hospital he and Skids were again attacked, but this time by the Mutant Liberation Front(M.L.F.), Rusty and Skids had no other option than to join them.

Stryfe brainwashed Rusty and Skids into surviving him. During a run in with Cable, he almost killed Rusty, but luckily he only injured him. In another encounter with X-Force, Rusty attacked Cannonball, but he and the M.L.F. were defeated and apprehended.

Some time later, Rusty and Skids were kidnapped by the Friends of Humanity, but were saved by X-Force. Still brainwashed they went along with X-Force to Avalon when they got an invitation from Exodus. On Avalon Rusty and Skids got cured of the brainwashing by Magneto, and in return accepted to stay with him on Avalon and join his Acolytes. As an Acolyte Rusty only went on a few missions, including one in which he had to face Cable again, and like the first time, he lost again. When Holocaust was brought to Avalon, Rusty was ordered by Scanner to check up on the lab were Milan was studying Holocaust, but when he got there Holocaust was in the progress of breaking free, and he used his powers to absorb Rusty's life force, resulting in his death.

Powers

Rusty is a Pyrokinetic. Rusty is able to ignite oxygen in the air and direct it as pyrotechnic blasts. He can also start fires anywhere in his line-of-sight up to 20 feet. Rusty can also erect shields completely of fire. The intensity of heat in the shield is strong enough to melt most physical attacks and disperse many energy attacks.

WHAT IF Xavier and Magneto set their differences aside peacefully?

In this reality Rusty marries his longtime girlfriend Skids and they have a baby they name Sean Collins. Beast runs tests on the baby and fins that baby Sean had something special in his genetic make-up. Rusty and Skids' son was the next step in human evolution. When the baby grows up he will be capable of choosing and altering his mutation and powers at will. He would be classified as Homo-Ultima. Word would spread and alien races would find out. Finding the child to be a potential future threat, they mentally manipulate Rusty and Skids to kill their baby. They would leave, turning their backs on the Acolytes and Magneto forever.

A sad twist is that the baby was actually nothing more then a regular mutant. Magneto had faked the tests to give his followers something to unite with.
