Russia is located in eastern Europe and Northern Asia and is the largest country on Earth, and it spans 9 time zones. It's capital is Moscow.

The commonly country called Russia is a Federation of smaller countries, born from the disgregation of the old Soviet Union in 1991.

The Federation is divided in several types of subjects, like the Independent Republics (i.e. Sakha Republic), the 'Oblast' or province (i.e. Kaliningrad and Kuril Islands), the 'Krais' (i.e. Kamchatka), and other particular types as Okrugs and Federal Cities (i.e. Moscow and St. Petersburg).
