Runaways #1
Free First Issue of Terry Moore’s Runaways On Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited!
This book has two great things going for it. I really dig Terry Moore and have really been enjoying the Runaways' adventures. I've mentioned before that this is a great time to restart the series. Whedon's run was good but got a little...messy towards the end, especially with the delays. This book managed to bring the kids back to their home turf. Terry Moore has done a great job capturing the personalities of the characters. With a team like the Runaways, the character interactions is a big deal. It's what really defines the team.
So check out issue #1 for free on Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited. (Has anyone been using it? How is it?) You might be able to still find an actual copy of the issue at your local comic shop to add to your collection.
And don't forget Terry Moore's
Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane #2 is in stores today too.
The Runaways are back in their new ongoing series and Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited is giving you the chance to read the all-new RUNAWAYS #1 for free!
RUNAWAYS #1 launches the new ongoing series from legendary author Terry Moore (SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE, Strangers in Paradise) and superstar artist Humberto Ramos (X-MEN, WOLVERINE) as they present the next chapter in the lives of everyone’s favorite teen heroes. So, what are you waiting for? Head over to Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited now for the latest Runaway action and adventure, which you can read right here: RUNAWAYS #1!
The Runaways are back in Los Angeles and trying to keep their status on the down-low, but L.A. isn’t the same city they left it, especially when the sins of their parents come back to haunt them. And if things couldn’t be more dangerous, the few remaining survivors of Karolina’s alien race have come to Earth…and they’re targeting the Runaways themselves for extinction.
Read the first issue for free right now and be sure to head to your local comic shop to make sure you don’t miss the next exciting issue of Runaways, hitting stores this September!

I'm a big fan of RunawaysI'm not a big fan of re-booting a series and giving it a new issue #1. I understand the reasoning. It helps attract new readers. There still is a lot of history with the characters. Just slapping a number 1 on the cover isn't going to make it easier to follow. I'm a big fan of Joss Whedon also but I have to say his last few issues were sort of like a train wreck. Maybe it was the sporadic schedule but I just started losing interest. That's surprising since I've always enjoyed their adventures.
A fresh start is good to get that bad feeling out of the way. I know Terry Moore will do a great job. He is great at writing character relationships. Just check out the preview pages courtesy of
Marvel and you'll see he's dead on with the way he writes the kids.

Runaways #1
Come see the beginning of a whole new Runaways! Comics legend Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise, Echo) and super-star artist Humberto Ramos (X-MEN, WOLVERINE, SPIDER-MAN) run back to Los Angeles with your favorite teen heroes. But it’s not the same city they left so long ago. The Runaways try to stay off the radar, but the sins of their parents won’t make that possible...

Skrulls attack!
The event of the summer continues. Is it meeting your expectations? I'm still recovering from last week's massive hit of Secret Invasion tie-ins.
Secret Invasion Continues To Infiltrate & Sell Out Quickly!
The top-selling event of the year continues to steamroll over the competition as Marvel is proud to announce more Secret Invasion tie-in sell outs! Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four #2, Ms Marvel #28, Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers #1, Mighty Avengers #15 and Avengers: The Initiative #14 have all sold out at Diamond (though copies may be available at the retail level). Marvel currently has no plans to go back to press on these issues which reveal secrets behind the Skrull invasion! How were Hank Pym and Spider-Woman replaced? What can the Human Torch and the Thing do to save the FF? What secret does 3-D Man hold? What do the Skrulls want with Hulking and Xavin? All these answers and more have been revealed—but do you know the truth and who you can trust?
With quick sell outs of virtually all Secret Invasion tie-ins, Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on future issues of Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four, Ms Marvel, Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers, Mighty Avengers and Avengers: The Initiative! There’s no comic event this year like Secret Invasion and as the story continues, the Marvel Universe finds itself altered irrevocably!
The Invasion continues in these upcoming tie-ins:

Man I have to say this has been a disappointment. I really dig the Runaways. Brian K. Vaughan really did a great job. I also dig Joss Whedon's work but what the heck happened here? The time travel thing seemed cool at first but I don't know how I feel about all these new characters. I don't feel any attachment to them and don't really care about them. It's also hard to care when there's been such delays. I don't know who's to blame for that but I guess it doesn't really matter. It's just a shame.
Here's looking forward to Terry Moore's upcoming run. I know he's been working on it for a while now so he'll have a few issues "in the can."
Joss Whedon’s final issue on Runaways is here! Runaways #30, the final issue in Whedon’s and superstar artist Michael Ryan’s time traveling epic ties everything up and wraps it in an antique bow. With our heroes trapped in 1907, they continue to try and find a way back to the future they belong in. But once a super-powered war breaks out on the streets of New York, it makes finding a solution that much harder. This is the arc has everyone talking and raving about Runaways!
This series has been a smash hit from the beginning of Whedon’s run right up to the very end. Will our heroes find their way back and will someone else be joining them? Find out in Whedon’s monumental conclusion Runaways #30!

Zombie Month continues and we get lots of cool variants. They have absolutely nothing to do with the issues themselves but I still say, you can't get enough. At least I can't. I still crack a smile at seeing the Marvel characters zombified. I do wonder how accessible they will be. I know a lot of comic stores will grab all the variante before they can reach the shelves and jack up the price. I get what they're doing, especially with the "dealer incentive" covers (where they get a variant copy for ordering "x" number of copies of the regular issue). I persoanlly like the 50/50 covers, like with Spider-Man: One More Day. Give me a choice in covers. Sure if the price has been jacked up, you still have the "choice" to shell out more money for it. It's just lame for the readers. But we need our comic stores to stay in business so I won't cry about it anymore. (At least for now).
We do have a new issue of New Avengers. I want more on the Skrull thing but looks like we have to wait until the "Secret Invasion" story hits. We're in the middle of the symbiote attack and more with the Hood. I'm sure it will still be as good as always. Linked to this is the Punisher War Journal World War Hulk crossover. From the preview, it looks like Frank gets a hold a symbiote himself. First a variation of Cap's costume, now a variation of Venom's. C'mon Frank, just be yourself. Don't give into the peer pressure! Love the zombie cover, though.
And finally, a new issue of Runaways!!! I won't go into how if feels soooo long in between issues. I still love the series. Not sure what it is. And to think I dismissed the comic when it first came out because I thought it was just another teen team book dealing with teen angst and puberty stuff. Just goes to show you what excellent writing can do. This is a way better week for Marvel than last week.

Wonder if they'll be listening to Huey Lewis and the News. This is, by far, one of my favorite series. Brian K. Vaughan did a great job. Joss Whedon's run has been great too. Feels like it's been a while since the last issue. I want it now.
The critically acclaimed “Dead End Kids” storyline continues in Runaways #28! Super-star scribe Joss Whedon (Astonishing X-Men) and rising star Michael Ryan (New Excalibur, New X-Men) have wowed audiences with the first three chapters of this exciting story, but now Runaways are… stranded in 1907? After the stunning revelations thus far, not only are the Runaways seemingly stranded forever…faces from their past are going to make sure the Runaways don't have a future! Critics and fans alike continue to praise this bold new chapter in the lives of Marvel’s most teen team!
Richard George of IGN.Com deemed Whedon and Ryan’s Runaways a “must read,” calling the series “brilliant” and describing Ryan as, “the best artist for Runaways.”
“Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Yes. This is what I’ve been wanting, waiting for, hoping for,” gushed Scott A. Williams of ComiXtreme.Com while also adding, “The artwork is truthfully among the best the series has ever seen.”
With only three issues left of Joss Whedon and Michael Ryan’s landmark run, you can’t afford to miss Runaways #28.

This is still one of my favorite comics. Whedon has made a smooth transition after Brian K. Vaughan left. And Jo Chen's covers as simply amazing.
Superstar scribe Joss Whedon and fan favorite penciller Michael Ryan continue their critically acclaimed “run” on Marvel’s hottest teen team in Runaways # 27! Under their tenure, Whedon & Ryan have taken the Runaways to New York and introduced them to some very important people, such as the Kingpin and the Punisher. Now the team is taking a giant step backwards… to 1907! So what’s in 1907? Tons of new characters! Both friendly and unfriendly faces from Runaways issues past! Action! Love! All this and comedy to boot! Also, meet a new character that will become a Runaway!
Critics continue to praise Runaways, with Richard Renteria of Newsarama.com explaining, “Whedon and Ryan continue their successful run on the title and take no shortcuts in delivering a great story.”
“Whedon presents some brilliant ideas that make me really excited for what's around the corner,” gushed Richard George of IGN.Com.
You’ve already seen Whedon & Ryan take the Runaways where they’ve never been before…and that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Strap yourself in for the more surprising Runaways story yet, “Dead End Kids” continues in Runaways #27!
