Before leaving home, the Runaways were a group of teenagers/children that didn't know each other very well, and weren't even particularly fond of each other. During their parent's yearly rituals, the group was forced to bear each other's company. One year they snuck out to find out what their parents were doing and uncovered a secret ritual that their parents participated in that involved human sacrifice. Learning of their parent's evil, the group ran away from their perspective homes. As time progressed, they each learned of their various family histories, of the mysterious group named the Pride that their parents were involved in, and uncovered their hidden powers and abilities. Every time a character dies, another one is added. The newest member is Xavin.

Because of their parents' lifelong deceptions and the way they were treated by other heroes after their parents' nature was revealed to the public, they have an intense distrust of adults.
