Comics' original muck monster, The Heap, returns in this, the first of a three volume set collecting his original adventures!
On October 12, 1918, Baron Von Emmelmann, a German pilot, was shot down over Wausau Swamp in Poland. Dying from his wounds, his body slowly merged with the morass. Willing to live forever more by remembering his wealth, social position, loving wife, and newborn baby he hadn't seen yet, he swore he would return to human form someway somehow. After 20 years, he rose and encountered Skywolf. At first he seemed to be a bad guy, but he has fought the Nazis and the Japanese during WWII. He ate farm animals whole so he could breathe due to the oxygen in the animals' blood.
Now for the first time Roy Thomas presents the original muck monster collected together. Though he looks like a rip-off, the Heap was created in 1942 and featuring fantastic comic artwork by Infantino, Starr, Bolle, Peddy, Leav, Barry et al. Roy Thomas Presents The Heap Volume 1 boasts a new cover by Michael Ploog and a 5,000 word introduction by Roy Thomas.
A limited edition slipcase edition of this volume was also released, limited to a print run of 300 copies, and with an exclusive Art Print signed by Michael Ploog and Roy Thomas.
