A few months back my Wikipedia editor, The Poet, discovered that there was something written about me in a TEXTBOOK! This textbook: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Illuminating-Letters/Paul-C-Gutjahr/e/9781558492882

Since I didn't want to buy a copy of the book just to read one or two pages (and Tony probably wouldn't let me spend money on an indulgence like that anyway), I went to the library to look for a copy. I found out that there wasn't a public library in Atlanta that had a copy...but that all the college and university libraries DID!

I know someone who is currently a student at Georgia State University and he told me that he would go to the library and borrow it for me today . So later on, I should be able to take look at that entry. This ought to be interesting. :-)

If you really want to hear a story straight out of The Twilight Zone, dig this, turok...

I told Bob about it earlier tonight and he almost fell over.

Back during the early 90's when I was creating fonts left and right in Fontographer (the Macintoch font editing program), the tutorial book that I used really sucked. Well, the program was made for editing fonts...not creating them from scratch. Whenever I was catching up with Bob about some new project I was working on, I'd always gripe about how bad it was figuring out how to solve some problem that I was having with Fontographer. And Bob would always say, "Isn't there a phone number you can call to get help?" And I'd always say, "I hate talking to those computer geeks over the phone. Most of the time I have no idea what they are talking about."

Anyway, Fontographer was a Macromedia product with an extremely tiny niche clientele. There were so few people who used the program that Macromedia only needed one tech support guy to handle all the phone calls.

That tech support guy was Tony Dumont. LMAO!

    What..The..Hell...

It is so "Twilight Zone" that I am beginning to believe it may be a result of Mr.Burdens "aura" very surreal, creepy even in its unlikelihood.

Tony made me aware of his Fontographer connection quite awhile ago. But the fact that he was the only person who would answer my questions on the phone at Macromedia, wasn't revealed to me until just recently.

You have to bear in mind that Tony was only about 20 years old when Fontographer was connected to my livelihood...and only just tangentially. I'm convinced that no matter how many times we may have spoken on the phone back then, there was nothing in either one of our agendas at the time that would have ever warranted us to ever actually meet in person.

It's like one of those movies where two people bump into each other at an airport...one of them drops something and the other picks it up and hands it over...and they both go their separate ways. And then they meet 20 years later because there is a REAL common emergency. :D

@Roxanne Starr: nice article (even if it didn't get the full story...)

Pretty cool that Tony was the same tech guy. To quote Kurt Vonnegut, "Busy, busy, busy."

    @The Poet:

I didn't post an article, Poet. I posted a single page of an entire textbook. I WISH I had the time and inclination to read the whole thing. :(

Better yet, it's a movie where two people are sitting next to each other on an airplane. One is sleeping and the other is playing Cat's Cradle. :D

I gave an interview about comic book lettering this afternoon that will be appearing on two websites as soon as the online store goes live. One site is about pop culture...the other is about "comic book technologies." LOL!

I have always been sooooooooooooo UN-tech savvy, I thought the interviewer was kidding...but he wasn't. :-)

Even though the interviewer keep bringing me back on-topic on a regular basis, I couldn't help myself from gossiping every 30 seconds or so. But I trust that he is a good editor. :D

Sheldon is kinda creepy...like a lot of my friends are.

The most impossible part of the Tony/Fontographer story is how dense I was over the last 2 years. At least every couple of months or so when I'd say something about Fontographer to Tony, he'd remind me that he did Fontographer tech support over the phone at one time. He'd also mention how few people USED Fontographer.

I never put 2 and 2 together until (I guess out of frustration) he pounded the OBVIOUS into my pea-brain. :(

    ...here's the latest update...

Tony is due to head back to Atlanta in a week...on the 25th. When he does, the store may already be up. But even if it isn't, it should, in any event, be open for business by Halloween! :D

Hi there, turok! Sorry I haven't been around CV lately...been too busy. I was just about to post on http://www.facebook.com/BobBurdenComics?fref=ts, but I'll give you guys the scoop instead. :-)

Tony will be back in Atlanta by Friday at the latest (come hell or high water...tee, hee) so we can get our files for the WILD SHALL WILD REMAIN hardcover to the printer in good time and avoid late charges.

As far as Horatio goes, Tony came up with a last minute plan B for him...but it wasn't a plan that Ray was willing to go with (at least it wasn't a plan he wanted to implement as of yesterday). So Ray may not get to Atlanta for at least another couple of weeks or so. We'll see. In the meantime, we'll make do with just the 3 of us.
