I think we'll all be 'watching the Watchmen'

03.06.09!
Check out the rating.  Looks like it will be rated R for "graphic violence, sexuality, nudity and language."  If you've read the book then you know this is exactly what we would expect.  No cutting corners or watering down the content.

I do have to say that I am both excited and scared for this.  There's a lot riding on this.  I'd hate to be in the filmmakers' shoes if it doesn't meet our expectations.  But then if they do, they will become our heroes.

I still think it's odd that Alan Moore refuses to see any adaptions of his works.  You would think there'd be at least a tiny bit of curiousity.

Here's the trailer shown at the Scream Awards.  Not sure if it will get pulled soon:

Debuting today

Yes, it is.
The next chapter is out.  I'm a still a little on the fence over this.  I do think it's a neat idea.  I definitely say you should do the season pass rather than getting the chapters individually.  If you've just recently bought the trade, I don't know if you'd want to spend another twenty bucks on this but it is another way to enjoy the story.   If you bought this a while ago, maybe it's time to upgrade.

Chapter three of Watchmen Motion Comics debuted on iTunes and Amazon On Demand.  Announced today by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, the third chapter is going to be available on Xbox Live and the Sony PlayStation Store over the next several days.  In addition customers of Verizon Wireless who have V Cast and Sprint customers with Sprint TV access can view abbreviated versions of the Motion Comics on their respective services.

Every two weeks a new chapter will debut on these providers.  Chapter 4 of the Watchmen Motion Comics will debut the week of November 3.

Summary of Watchmen Motion Comics Chapter 3:
As the world braces for what could be a doomsday scenario between the United States and Russia, Laurie leaves Dr. Manhattan and goes to Dan for consoling.  Meanwhile, the national media puts Dr. Manhattan under scrutiny, linking him to a rash of cancer deaths, and forcing him to escape to the planet Mars.

I am positively giddy reading and watching the news on the interwebs. You may have already heard these bits, but hey, I'm sharing them anyway. First up...

Watchmen

I'll watch the watchmen
Empire has brought us the first trailer for 2009s Watchmen movie, including a look at Doctor Manhattan. I should warn you that you can see bright blue dangly bits if you look closely. There is also the first look at Rorschach's inkmask in action (it's only been still photos so far). You can view the trailer and other news here:

I'm very excited for this film as (so far) it looks to be very faithful to the source material.

DC Universe Online
Sony will have you working with or against DC's classics

As if that weren't enough for my inner fanboy, Sony are beginning to release details on their upcoming superhero MMO based on the DC universe. From the looks of things, you create your own hero or villain and work with or against the various characters of the DCU. Featured in the video are Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern (Hal), Sinestro and the Joker (I think I missed some). For the visual look of the universe, they have worked with Jim Lee (one of my favourites) and it so far seems to be paying off.  Marvel's effort with Microsoft and Cryptic (the people behind City of Heroes) fell through a while back and development has officially stopped for what would have been a joint online game for Vista and 360 gamers. While anyone who knows me, knows I prefer DC, I would have liked a Marvel version out there. I especially would have liked it being on the console I own, so I guess I have to get a PS3 now. The official site is here:

More details coming soon.

Four figures will be shown at the New York Comic-Con this weekend.  They're coming out in January for $14.99.

EW had the first look at these:  www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20191746,00.html

So who do you think the other two should be?  What other Watchmen products would you like to see?

I have to say I'm really nervous about this.  I just have no idea how it will be.  Should I just hope for the best?  Some of these images (from director Zack Snyder's website rss.warnerbros.com/watchmen/ ) look good but some...I think I'll have to see in action to see how it actually translates.

What do the hardcore Watchmen fan have to say?
