Rockslide is a student at the Xavier Institute, and a member of the Young X-Men. Edit
Origin
Even before gaining his mutant abilities, Santo was well described as a bully. His mutant ability, then was ultimately appropriate considering his outlook on his peers. After joining the Xavier Institute, Santo quickly became friends with another tough guy Julian Keller, Hellion. Both were handpicked by Emma Frost to become members of the Hellions squad. On the squad, Santo proved to be a valuable asset assisted his team in winning the prestigious Field Tournament and also assisted his teammates in forcibly opposing the arrest of fellow teammate Wither.
During summer vacation when the Kingmaker offered the team anything they wanted for an unknown price, Santo got to live his dream by becoming a superhuman wrestling champion. When the group refused to live up to the deal that the Kingmaker wanted, Santo was shattered by the Kingmaker, and then put back together by Hellion.
During the House of M, Santo again was able to live his dream as a world-class professional wrestler. After Decimation Santo was one of the students whose powers remained intact. With many former classmates de-powered (most of which died in a bus explosion), Santo was chosen again by Emma Frost during a reorganization into one main squad for training. As one of the New X-Men, Santo would be one of the handful of mutants that would train to one day become an X-Man.
When William Stryker attacked the mansion, Rockslide assisted in battling him. Later after the team discovered the connection between Stryker and Nimrod, they sought out the Nimrod robot to destroy it. During battle, Rockslide was destroyed for a second time by Nimrod. Again, Hellion telekinetically fused him back together but this time he became larger and more rough and craggy.
During the Quest For Magik arc, Santo was separated from most of the other Ex-Hellions and wound up going against the Darkchild persona of Illyana Rasputin alongside the other students. Early in their battle, Santo inadvertently exploded, for no obvious reason, when he attempted to shoot off his forearms while fighting demons. He has since then reappeared in a more powerful form composed of what appears to be magma and molten rock. However, his surface temperature does not appear to have changed, given that Anole was able to hold onto him without being burned, and that grappling Darkchylde did not inflict burns as well.
After his return from Limbo, he retained his Limbo lava-rock form. Trials and experimentation of his newfound abilities, prompted by Beast, resulted in the loss of his magic-resistant body, but gained knowledge of how his powers function.
Santo later appeared in [[World War Hulk: X-Men:vol:18786]], and eagerly tried to do battle with the green giant. Hulk pinned him to the ground with his foot, tore off all his limbs, and threw them a great distance away ("Connecticut" according to the Hulk), asking him if he could summon them from that far. This effectively took him out of active combat.
Santo played a big role along with the other team of New X-Men, in X-Men: Messiah CompleX. He, along with some other students from Xavier's, launch an attack on a church owned and occupied by Purifiers. He next appears fending off Predator X when it attacks the mansion, and fight in the climatic battle on Muir Island.
Young X-Men
In the beginning of the Young X-Men series, Rockslide is seen talking to Blindfold in a coffee shop. Blindfold is telling him that he will be a part of a new X-Men team. Cyclops then comes to them and tell them that he has been there watching them for about 15 minutes, unnoticed. Cyclops then criticizes Rockslide's sense of surrounding, telling him that he should have noticed him and that had he been an enemy it would've been a dangerous situation. Rockslide defends his not noticing Cyclops by stating that even if he was an enemy it wouldn't matter because he is indestructible. Cyclops smiles and then attacks Rockslide with an optic blast out of the coffee shop's window. Cyclops tells Rockslide they he wanted him on his team and Rockslide accepts with the condition that he will let Blindfold join as well.
Powers
While always a large and strong child, when his mutant powers manifested Rockslide became larger and is made of craggy, grey organic rock. This form grants him enhanced strength, stamina, and durability. He can also fire parts of his body, usually his hands, as projectiles at opponents. These parts are not under his control after being ejected, and simply fly as if they were thrown. When a body part is removed by being fired or smashed, Santo can re-attach it by placing it where it belongs. Santo has demonstrated in the past that this can happen even when his entire body is demolished as long as he is assisted (in both cases by Hellion's telekinesis).
During the events of "The Quest for Magik", Santo has recently displayed the ability to exist outside of his stone form and present himself made out of molten rock and magma. Whether or not this is a permanent physical mutation or something caused by the magics that govern Limbo has yet to be established. His newfound form also renders him impervious to Illyana Rasputin's mystical abilities and presumably all other forms of magic in Limbo as well. This would be the second time that Rockslide has evolved.
After the fight with Nimrod, when Santo first exploded and then reformed, he somehow further advanced his mutation. Dr. McCoy theorized that Santo is now an entity of pure psychic energy. He reforms by using the earth around him and instead of just 'firing' off one of his hands he can now literally become a rockslide or an explosion - a much more powerful manifestation of his former ability, but less well-directed. Reforming by using surrounding earth and rock also allows him to absorb the inherent properties of that material (evidenced by his magic-resistant form when he was made of Limbo rock).
