Rocket Raccoon Could Be Coming To A Theater Near You In 2014

If you have always dreamed of seeing Rocket Raccoon, Groot and the rest of The Guardians of the Galaxy make their way onto the big screen then you might find yourself surprised to hear that this might be coming together sooner than you think.

Late last week was Marvel's official red carpet premiere of The Avengers movie which will hit stores on May 6th. During the premiere Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige was present at a press junket for the film where he revealed plans for Marvel's many future projects unrelated to The Avengers. Among the projects mentioned were Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and - you guessed it - The Guardians of the Galaxy.

"We are very excited about bringing things like that, maybe things exactly like that, to the screen. [...] When you tell people, you know what would be really cool? This movie, and there's a raccoon, and there's a tree... And they go, 'What?' And people like you know what it is, and get excited. And the majority of people go, 'Did you say a raccoon and a tree?' 'Oh yeah, they're going to steal the whole movie. They're hilarious.' 'Okay, I'll believe it when I see it.' I like that."

It's clear that Marvel is willing to make both big-budget superhero movies as well as movies that play on fantasy, silliness and overall fun. Clearly Marvel Studios (or, at least Kevin Feige) wants to go where no movie has gone before. He wants to take studios by surprise by bringing Raccoons and Trees together in one movie. Could it be Marvel's next big project? Feige also revealed during the junket that the studio already knows what their project for 2014 will be, although they have yet to officially announce it. So which Marvel property will be the next to make it to the big screen? More importantly, which Marvel property would you like to see? Do you think a Guardians of the Galaxy movie could tie into The Avengers?

It'd be fun & different lol I want Drax The Destroyer & Gamora on the big-screen as well. They'd look awesome. Only thing is some casual viewers might want to compare it to Star Wars or something lol

I was sooooooo excited when I heard this news. I love GotG! If they can get the blend of action of humor right, it will be awesome :)

I don't think they'll do it cuz The Avengers movie is inspired from the Ultimate universe and the guardians do not exist there...

It's inspired by but is not the Ultimate universe...it's the Cinematic Universe, so who's to say Rocket Raccoon can't exist there?

I've always been interested in this team, but never got around to reading their books. Anywhere I can start? (preferably post-2000)

That's the most retarded explanation ever. LOL & the cinematic universe is inspired by a combination of the 616 & Ultimate Universe blended together. Some people shouldn't talk.

The whole second volume. The first volume is a different team in a different reality.

cartoon cgi?

The fact that Marvel is even suggesting the possibility of a GOTG movie is pretty crazy. At this point, they're just going down the list of comic properties they haven't used to bring on the big screen. I wish DC/WB would get their act together on the movie front.

HE'S EVERYWHERE.

Long as it doesn't turn into another Howard the Duck, I'm all for it! Good to see what Marvel's second wave is going to center around on the big screen.

#17 Posted by mtrakos (563 posts) - - Show Bio

I could only see this working as cgi. A live action would resemble Howard the duck failure.

This rumor has been out there for a while. I hope that it is true. I would love to see a Marvel Cosmic movie. (It makes me wonder if this was part of the reason Marvel went with an alien menace for the Avengers movie. will it tie into the Guardians movie somehow? )

#19 Posted by Chibi-Iroh (388 posts) - - Show Bio

@clemj: That doesn't mean anything the cinematic universe is a mashup of the 616 and the Ultimate so elements can be taken from each and used.

If they include Cosmo, I'm sold on the Guardians of the Galaxy.

#21 Posted by Loki9876 (3051 posts) - - Show Bio

I want Ant-man first but it would also be pretty cool.

#22 Posted by Question28 (4 posts) - - Show Bio

Well considering some of the rumors going around about the After Credits Scene in the Avengers it would make some sort of sense for a GotG movie. I would love it, especially if Adam Warlock is in it!

HAHA This should be a fun movie. Hmm hope they don't make it goofy just because of Groot and RR.

Yeah we already saw Drax on the big screen. Thing is they chose to change his name to Riddick. :p

Riddick was hot garbage. But back on-topic Groot will look Goofy. It is incredibly hard to do a living tree creature without it looking like a SyFy channel monster. Look at LOTR's tree spirits they look awful. Rocket would be hard too to animate. They'd have to use the best CGI to get the texture of his fur to blown in the wind & have his facial features realistic when he talks.

Make it CGI (but not CGI creatures in the real world bull) and put Pixar on the case? Guaranteed hit.

#32 Posted by Cafeterialoca (1504 posts) - - Show Bio

Seeing how he talked the most out of GOTG when he also listed Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and the Inhumans, it's very likely.

Would be very cool if they do it. Would also stop all those people who diss Cosmic Marvel.

Personally, I'm waiting til Thunderbolts becomes a reality. 2 Films a year! They gotta get there sometimes!

I rather see a ROM movie.

That would be fantastic. I hope it comes to fruition.

oh hell ya !!!! Cosmo better be in it too !!! and it better be a seriousish movie and not like for kids, animated would be ok too if it isn't childish. Last two movies I saw in theaters were Iron Man 2 and Land of the Lost, $12+ admission is ridic but I'd totally pay it to see GotG on the big screen opening day :D

Oh yes! Lol. I saw a GOTG Modern little figure box and almost bought it just to get the cute Rocky and use him for a keychain.

- If this is done by Pixar it could be awesome, if it's done as live action I am extremely skeptical it could be done anywhere as well

#42 Posted by Aronmorales (9485 posts) - - Show Bio

I'll be there for it, BRING IT ON!!!!

#43 Posted by Metatron_Da_Don (1037 posts) - - Show Bio

I can totally see it. But who's the hero?

Must have Star-Lord or Nova. Rockie cant be the main protagonist, going off the comics (Thanos Imperative).

#44 Posted by NuclearLife (53 posts) - - Show Bio

As long as Star-Lord is the leader, and the whole team is in it, it might be ok, but they will more likely ruin it by playing to much towards Rocket and Groot. They are great characters but they are comic relief. Maybe they will be fighting the Universal Church of Truth, which would be cool, or possibly be the starting point towards a Infinity Gauntlet/War/Crusade crossover.

More interested in Ant-man and Doctor Strange.

So would I, but that will probably never happen since Marvel doesn't own the rights to that character.

Words will not be able to express how disappointed I will be if the decide to do Guardians of the Galaxy before Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Black Panther, or any other much more deserving character. Hell, I'd go see the Squirrel Girl movie before I see a damned space raccoon.
