How Long Could Walking Dead Go On For?
USA Today recently interviewed writer Robert Kirkman about his upcoming show on AMC, the Walking Dead, based on his hit on-going comic book series. While this first season will only last a few episodes, many people hope it will last a lot longer. Kirkman hopes for the best.
"I'm hoping we blow past M*A*S*H, The Simpsons, Bonanza— I want 27 years of The Walking Dead!"
Now, that may seem a little too much, and the first episode hasn't even aired, but this show has potential to go the distance, but I don't know about 27 years. For those who haven't read the book, I'll sum it up quickly. The Walking Dead follows one man as the world he knows becomes infested with zombies. Humanity has essentially kicked the bucket as he and other people he find in the world band together to try and get back to normalcy. This book is less about zombies and more about community, survival, and human nature. It's lasted so many years because it's not a gimmicky book, nor does it rely on just the zombies to be an interesting read.
In the 12 trades that are out (Vol 12 coming out this month), there's enough stories to keep this television show running for a few years. Obviously, the show doesn't, and most likely won't, stick to the book 100% and that's fine, as long as it still feels like the book. I personally could see this show running for 5 years minimum. There's a lot of potential to have this show run quite a while without it getting too repetitive or boring. Heck, even Prison Break ran four seasons and they were out of the prison by the end of the first season. I hope this show runs for a while. It's one of those things where I'm really excited for it, and all I've seen is some pictures of some zombies, but they are some darn good lookin zombies. In all honesty, if this show, which I hope it doesn't, ends up being just "ok" or even worse, I'd still want to see it on air for a few years. How long do you guys think this show will run?
I'll be optimistic and say that this show could go for a good long while. If it's following the comic story exactly, it'll probably drag around where Vol. 2-4 or so take place, but it picks up very quickly after that. IF they make it to Vol.8 though, then the show will definitely grow in popularity because of the crazy plot twists in that volume.
" I'll wait and see the episodes before saying how long it could last. "Not even an uneducated guess based on the director and other info we've seen?
" @NightFang said:Okay, i'll give it 3-5 seasons. Thats a good time for any show ti end." I'll wait and see the episodes before saying how long it could last. "Not even an uneducated guess based on the director and other info we've seen? "
I'd say 4 seasons at most. I think I skipped this, but is each episode going to be an hour long? If so, then yeah, 4 seasons would be good. Anything longer would probably make the story dull.
" Well Frank Darabont stated that he doesn't plan on having the group make it to the prison till the season 2 finale. At that pace I think the show could go on for a while. Plus what I'm reading / hearing sound very promising so I would expect it to run for a while. "If that's how long it takes them to get to the prison, it almost seems like they're going at a pace of one trade a season (Second trade is when they make it to the prison correct?). I think at that rate the end of this show could done way before some people hope it to be. That is if they stick closely to the source material.
" i say 3 or 4 seasons too. after the 3rd season thing will just get redundant "Imma huge fan of Walking Dead and would love for it to go no forever....but I gotta agree wit this guy season 4 will be the cut off date hopefully some other network will pick it up
I want 27 years...I have a feeling that I'm going to be extremely fanboyish over this show and that even if it sucks I'll think it's the best show on earth....just like the book
The show will air for exactly 4 seasons when the actual zombie apocalypse occurs and is subsequently canceled, replaced a season later with the horrifying " The Walking Living".
Nothing can ever beat M*A*S*H
"We're doctors the worst thing we can do is storm the enemy and take their tonsils out."
Hard to predict without anything even being shown on it yet. They are really trying to expand AMC's original content so I know at least two seasons would be a lock but again you never know. This is something new, if it does well I could see it as at least 5 seasons.
I can see a good 3-6 seasons. Thats assuming the audience is there and the quality doesn't go downhill.
3 or 4 seasons. i mean seriously how long can a zombie show go on. it will get redundant and wont reach a large audience.
my guess is 20 episodes at most. with the first season only being 6 episodes I can see interest waning by the time the next batch is rolled out which will hurt it. Also, A&E may have other better ratings getters like Intervention that will trump it too easily in terms of lower production costs. If the second season is only 6 episodes as well I would think that will be the end of it.
i think like 3-4 seasons like most people but i hope they keep the seasons short like the first one is spose to be
27 yrs? yeah right. Even though the show looks promising, I bet you anything this show won't run even less than 27 yrs. It all depends on the ratings and how this show sells well. Take a look at Jonah Hex movie, that didn't turn out well but the comics did. I'm pretty sure the same thing will happen to Walking Dead. Good luck, though.
Well the whole appeal of Walking Dead is that it is a Zombie movie that never ends. I would love for both the comics and the show to do this. never end ha ha Unless the show is terrible that is. But I hope its just as amazing as the Comic.
I can see it going on for a while! I hope Michonne is brought into the television series at some point.
