"I'm hoping we blow past M*A*S*H, The Simpsons, Bonanza — I want 27 years of The Walking Dead!"
Now, that may seem a little too much, and the first episode hasn't even aired, but this show has potential to go the distance, but I don't know about 27 years. For those who haven't read the book, I'll sum it up quickly. The Walking Dead follows one man as the world he knows becomes infested with zombies. Humanity has essentially kicked the bucket as he and other people he find in the world band together to try and get back to normalcy. This book is less about zombies and more about community, survival, and human nature. It's lasted so many years because it's not a gimmicky book, nor does it rely on just the zombies to be an interesting read.
In the 12 trades that are out (Vol 12 coming out this month), there's enough stories to keep this television show running for a few years. Obviously, the show doesn't, and most likely won't, stick to the book 100% and that's fine, as long as it still feels like the book. I personally could see this show running for 5 years minimum. There's a lot of potential to have this show run quite a while without it getting too repetitive or boring. Heck, even Prison Break ran four seasons and they were out of the prison by the end of the first season. I hope this show runs for a while. It's one of those things where I'm really excited for it, and all I've seen is some pictures of some zombies, but they are some darn good lookin zombies. In all honesty, if this show, which I hope it doesn't, ends up being just "ok" or even worse, I'd still want to see it on air for a few years. How long do you guys think this show will run?
