Robert Frank
Robert Frank is a comic book character that first appeared in USA Comics #1
Golden Age super-speedster known as the Whizzer. He was married to Miss America and the father of Nuklo. A former member of Liberty Legion, the Invaders, All-Winners Squad, and V-Battalion. He gained his powers by a mongoose blood transfusion.
In the jungles of Africa, De Emil Frank's son Bob is sick with fever. While the boy lies helpless, a snake comes writhing toward him; suddenly, a mongoose jumps from the foliage and kills the serpent. Inspired by the animal's show of spunk, he some of its blood into his son, thus saving his life. Shortly thereafter Emil lays on his deathbed and tells his son that the mongoose blood has given him super speed. When the scientist dies, Bob returns to New York where he creates a costume and uses his powers for good. Though The Whizzer posses normal strength, in one adventure he is shown able to pull a train "because his tremendous speed never allows the straining weight to 'catch up' with his body strength."Fighting as a member of such teams as The Liberty Legion, The Invaders,The All-Winners Squad, and V battalion, he meets and marries Madeline Joyce, aka Miss America. The two have a son,Nuklo. who is born radioactive due to a nuclear mishap to which the super-heroes had been exposed; as a result, the boy is locked in a "chrono-module" underground. Sometime thereafter. Madeline dies giving birth to a second child and Frank is so stunned thet he becomes a hobo, aimlessly roaming the world. Twenty years later when the chrono-module is accidentally unearthed, Frank snaps from his lethargy and becomes The Whizzer once more, Alas, he perishes in a battle with the evil Isbisa, an enemy from the old days.
The Whizzer managed to survive for seven years in various Marvel titles during the Golden Age and once again appeared in Giant Sized Avengers #1, published in 1974.
