Uncanny X-Force #35 - Rainbows, Puppy Dogs & Sunshine Review

5

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. Rick Remender and Phil Noto deliver the final issue of one of our favorite series.

The Good

No one wants to think about the end of a favorite series. In some ways, this series isn't really ending. We'll still have another UNCANNY X-FORCE issue next month but with Marvel NOW!, we're seeing many books end and re-launch with new creative teams and directions.

If you've been following Rick Remender's run, you know you should never expect to have an idea what he might throw at you. With a "final issue," this is even more so. We're just coming off the team's latest and biggest battle. A lot was at stake and they've suffered some losses as well. What are the chances Remender will ease up on the characters in his final issue?

What Remender does do here he show us his skill at characterization. Wolverine and Psylocke have suffered quite a bit thanks to Remender. Seeing the aftermath of recent events shows this isn't just a book full of big and crazy action. Wolverine's inner monologue and Betsy's conversation with her brother are definitely highlights in a series full of highlights. What about Deadpool? Remender is writing him like no one else has.

We have seen many great artists on this series as well and having Phil Noto on board for the last is a welcome treat. Noto is one of those rare artists that can pour so much emotion into characters' eyes.

Be prepared to say some goodbyes as well as some hellos. Chances are you won't see the ending coming.

The Bad

This series has been a blast. It's unfortunate it's ending.

The Verdict

This is how you end a series. After all these issues, we have grown attached to the characters in the way that Rick Remender has guided them. He has had a knack for doing the unexpected and even some cruel things from time to time. It's bittersweet to see the series end but Remender ends it in a truly fitting way. Having Phil Noto here as the artist makes it that much easier to say our goodbyes. It's been a great thirty-five issues. The ride isn't completely over as we will still see many of the characters in other series. Bravo to Remender, Noto and Frank Martin Jr.

Can we get a Rick Remender UNCANNY X-FORCE complete omnibus now?

Man, I'm gonna miss this series. Absolutely loved this issue, though.

I knew the one thing in the issue was going to happen one way or the other.

This issue was amazing and this series was amazing.

I can't wait for the Uncanny Avengers sequel to the Dark Angel saga.

GONNA MISS , im sure a OC is coming. I have the dark angel saga. I plan on getting them all

I haven't been reading this because I was wondering if they were going to do an Omnibus or not. I really hope so though. I also need to get the Omnibus of Rick's run of Punisher.

Only 35 issues! Man i thought it was a lot longer, and i mean that in a good way. It has been a fantastic series.

Well there two point one issues making it 37 issues long, plus they had a Fear Itself mini (though that wasn't by Remender).

Heading to the shop now. You better believe this is top of the pile when I get home.

The fact that it's pretty much a happy ending makes me hate the guy even more...

This series is kinda the reason I'm into comic books now.

Did x force just let the sentinel fantomex escape?

Posted by garlyle

Totally seconded on needing that Omnibus NOW! This series is so special to me; I don't even have the words to describe how important it is to me. Thank you Rick.

I hope you're referring to the individual Future Punisher warned DeadPool about? I was kinda hoping Remender leaves that plot alone til the later end of his UA run, but I agree I'd love to see it!

Omnibus Please yes.

Loved the scene of DP and Evan. Fantastic. Scene with Logan fell kinda flat for me. Remember his state when Mariko Yashida died? Compare that to this and this is just...kinda...meh. Perhaps that's the intended goal to leave Logan kinda numb to all of it. I dunno, I look forward to seeing some sort of long lasting effects this has on him. This should be the worst thing he has ever been through (and he's been through a lot).

Loved this so much. Great conclusion and it gave me everything I wanted.

Yeah that scene with Deadpool and Evan, so sweet. I'm also fine with the way things ended with Fantomex.

Fantomex's mother? What? Is she some sort of interactive AI programe like Genesis' fake Kansas parents? That's my best explanation.

Amen to the omnibus idea. It's the one I've been looking forward to for a while now.

so sad to see this go. Excellent last issue. love the interaction between Wade and Kid Apoc. This is how you do a team book.

No action, no craziness, just a warm heart felt goodbye and excellent character interactions. My god I'm gonna miss this book.

After i finished this issue i thought it sucked but, then i realized what else could they do? @Doombert said:

Yea i agree, ending was okay for me but i always hated fantomex(not as a character) and psychs relationship, and feel like something is left unsaid/not finished. Not sure what but feel like something is missing;maybe i just hate to see it end.I loved this team and watching all of them together, hopefully next one will have good chemistry.

I was wondering that as well.

He appears in one panel, but I suppose it's all misdirection. But what's with the blue planet image thing in that third panel on that page?

His version of E.V.A?

Fantomex's mother looks suspicously like ships A.I in the first arc

I am not reading the review. [Thanks for not mentioning possible spoilers, or covering them up] But I just want to say that I love this series, and it sucks I have to wait till March to get the final Trade. I hope no ones spoils it. I have all of this series trades I've never done that before. I tried with Irredeemable, but lest just say LIFE put that on hold. (+)

I love Uncanny X-Force because it's what brought me to reading comics in first place.

Even though it might have been very disappointing in some ways, the ending was okay for me because of how Psylocke ended.

She's been through a lot: killing her brother and Warren (which by the way, should have been mentioned), meeting her terrible future self... She's one of my favorite characters and I'm happy she was allowed to be somewhat happy for once.

It's been mentioned like every other issue since he "died"...

Man I'm super bummed out. This series is one of my all time favorite comic book series. It's in my Top 2 favorite series. Definitely one of my favorite team books, X-Men book and likely my favorite Marvel book. I loved the way Remender wrote the series. Man I love this series. I'm going to check out the Marvel NOW! Uncanny X-Force. No matter how good or bad the next Uncanny X-Force is, this series will always be one of the best series Marvel ever released.

I have all the trades/hardcovers released so far. The day Final Execution Part 2 comes out, I'm buying it. Hell I'll buy the omnibus whenever it comes out so I'll have all of Uncanny X-Force in one book.

Deadpool has been funny and a hero in this comic. And that's kind of amazing.

Like everything else too.

Posted by ThexX

Loved this series it well be missed. But now after this issue I am wondering if both male and female Fantomex are going to be on the new Uncanny X-Force team. I know for sure that the female Fantomex is on the team.

If they're one thing to complain about throughout a otherwise fantastic series it is this: Deathlok didn't do shit! Granted I jumped in on UXF during the DAS so maybe he did more during Deathlok Nation but still he was just kinda there like Rick didn't know what to do with him. I mean at least Jason Aaron gave him stuff to do as security in W&TXM. But it's sad he never really got to shine in UXF. Still This series is probably my 2nd favorite all time series next to Secret Warriors.

who knows if that was the Sentinel Fantomex or not though....one of the other two could be it and just hiding out

Amzing run. I loved this issue, Wade relation with the kid, the whole relation with team members... and WHAT happened really surprised me.

Rick Remender became my favorite writter with this series, I really like how he can surprise me every single issue and how he treat each separate character. Great writter, amazing series. Bravo.

@danhimself:

his misdirection. he told them he already left (so thzey think the third one actually left the place fefore they arrived there)

When I read the final scene I knew was excited. The fart joke during the Evan and DD scene was awesome. I really enjoyed this.

It was and ever will be the best Marvel book ever!

this whole series has been such a great ride any every way. i had a very long hiatus from collecting comics, and this years was one of my first when i started picking them up again back in late 09. the kill/hit squad was just a facade for a deep enthralling story. im not going to get into everything i enjoyed about but me myself im a natural skeptic, if someone said this will be awesome through and through, id look at them crazy, but this has been the best $150 ive spent on a single series. they also introduced me to fantomex (last time i read comics heavy was like late 90s at best because onslaught had just wrapped up...yea. prices have sure inflated since i last read). cant wait to read each and everyone back to back. ahh and remender didnt stick to the cliches that was nice.

Posted by Iron Fist Angel

I absolutely loved Crain and Yost's run on X-force. I recognize that Rememder is a very talented writer but his stuff is just too weird for me. I hated his X-force and I'm actually glad it's ending.

Just when I finally caught up the series ends! Rick Remender has taken us on a journey these last 35 issues, and this issue is a sendoff and offers us some setup for the new team. The Fantomex resolution was very cool, the scene with Betsy and her brother was a great, emotional moment, Deadpool playing Mr. Sentimental with Evan was heartwarming and hilarious. The whole thing was a joy from start to finish. This was my top title of the week.
