The X-Files: Season 10 #2 - Believers, Part 2 (of 5)

5

Someone is targeting those involved with the X-Files. Mulder frantically searches for clues on Scully's abduction.

The Good

Man oh man, Joe Harris, Michael Walsh and IDW are not playing around here. This is the real deal.

The X-Files had some really great episodes during the nine season run. You have to admit that there were some that didn't feel as epic as others. This comic is at the epic level. This story is not messing around. Joe Harris and Chris Carter are pulling out all the stops. For fans of the show, it's such a joy.

You want familiar faces? You'll get some here. Without spoiling anything, we get to see the return of Special Agent John Doggett on the very first page. With the scene with Skinner last issue, you'll find yourself on the edge of your seat as there's no telling what might happen. The intensity and pacing of the storytelling makes it feel like even though this is the beginning of "Season 10," it could easily be the end of everything.

But the shocks and revelation continue. You might find yourself tempted to rise out of your chair and cheer when certain events unfold. It's great seeing familiar characters show up or even just mentioned. So many little aspects from the show turn up and it makes you feel like a kid on Christmas.

Michael Walsh's art is a dream. Combined with Jordie Bellaire's colors, you get deeply immersed into the atmosphere of the story. You really get a sense of the emotion and attitude coming from the characters. You'll recognize the who the characters are and you get an immediate sense of what they're saying and how they are saying it.

The Bad

Good or bad, there is a sense Harris and Carter are indeed going all out in fear this comic won't be around for an extended period. There are so many shocks and twists, you can't help but wonder how they will be able to top all this in the next arc.

The Verdict

This is a must read for anyone that has ever watched an episode of The X-Files. Joe Harris and Chris Carter are doing what every fan of the show has been craving, extending the story with the characters. So much is being thrown at us and it's amazing how much we're seeing happening in just these first two issues. Michael Walsh's art and Jordie Bellaire's colors creates a great vibe for the story. You will be amazed at what happens in this comic. Things are definitely changing and we're seeing some great surprises here. There's no telling what might happen next and that's a great feeling - knowing that there are loads of twists and turns awaiting in the next issue.

Don't scare me like this Tony! While I'm not sold on the art, story-wise this was a 4+ issue and I will so bummed if this book doesn't succeed. I'm definitely going to keep buying and recommend it.

Michael Walsh's art is fantastic, if you like this, then I highly recommend reading Comeback, a great mini.

If someone likes Walsh's art and wicked stories about time travel Comeback is a must read; and luckily it's already collected in a trade.

Very fun. This is making me want to watch the entire series again....which would be ridiculous because all my episodes are on VHS. But there was so much stuff, it was all like it was rooting around in my basal memory, vague half-remembered but powerful memories...a name would come up, and I'd think awesome, yeah! Then I'd think wait, who the hell was that guy again? This is going to be great if they can keep this up. Plus, I am psyched (I don't think this is a spoiler since they're on the cover) to have the Lone Gunmen back, their death was so amazingly lame.

JOHN DOGGETT!!! I loved him and was so ticked off that they kicked him to the curb for the series finale, just because Duchovny came back one last time. Sure, he is important, but Doggett carried the show very well for 2 seasons, after Mulders vanishing act and he deserved an ending!

I really hope he gets a big part in this. I mean, for crying out loud, he was the lead character for the last 2 seasons! Loved him!
