The Walking Dead #605 - Now

4

It's the aftermath of the attack on Alexandria.

Warning: Spoilers for this week's episode of The Walking Dead.

On this week's episode of The Walking Dead, Rick runs towards Alexandria with a whole bunch of walkers following him. The walls have hundreds, maybe thousands of walkers trying to get into the town. The townsfolk of Alexandria are rightfully worried. Rick says they have to keep the noise to a minimum in the hopes that the walkers move on. Aaron says it's his fault the Walkers came.

Some people of Alexandria start heading to where the food is kept and gathering food. Spencer comes in and tells them to leave it and that they have rules in this town and doing this means there's no rules anymore. Deanna finds Spencer drunk. He shouts at Deanna. Carl gets into it with Austin about Enid running away. Jessie goes to check on a neighbor and a walker appears. The person slit their wrists and became one of the undead. Jessie ends the walker as neighbors look on. She tells them they have to fight or they will die.

Maggie and Aaron head to the outside through the sewer. Maggie says she needs to go on her own. Aaron goes with her anyway. While in the sewer, they discover a few really decomposed walkers. Aaron and Maggie take them down. Maggie demands Aaron stays and yells at him. Walkers come to the grate which leads to the outside. She tells Aaron she's pregnant. Aaron and Maggie hug, with walkers just feet away, behind some metal bars.

Deanna is walking around at night, in town, and a walker attacks her. She stabs it with a bottle in the chest over and over again. Rick comes running up and stabs it in the head. Spencer is on guard duty and is thanked for his work during the raid. Rick talks to Jessie about the people that are still missing, including Glenn. Jessie says they still could be alive. Rick and Jessie share a kiss. Deanna walks towards the walker-infested gate and hits it.

Obviously, there's going to be a ton of people upset that this episode revealed nothing revolving around the alleged death of Glenn. Let's forget about that completely because it's pretty obvious it'll be a few weeks before that is all resolved. Yes, it sucks that we don't know what happens, but Glenn doesn't have a lot to do with everything that's going on, so moving forward...

We're seeing the aftermath of what happened at Alexandria. There's still bodies being clean up and mentally, the folks of Alexandria, who are the least equipped people in this new world. are all affected in one way or another. Some of what we see is people that are emotionally scarred and others start to get a "fend for themselves" mentality, but there's one thing that hit them all really hard: they no longer feel safe. They can't ignore the outside world anymore.

This is a repeating part of the dialogue throughout tonight's episode. Numerous characters say this, including the scene where Jessie talks to her son. Her son doesn't feel safe anymore and refuses to come downstairs.

There's a ton of emotion from this episode as characters have a moment to breathe, in all of this madness, and have to come to terms where they're at. There's a big moment here where Maggie is trying to find Glenn, by travelling through the sewer to get out of Alexandria, and she tells Aaron that she's pregnant. Aside from that piece of info being dropped like a bomb on the viewers, it's a pretty gripping moment for Maggie, as she's been side-by-side with Glenn since season two and not having him around makes her feel like a piece of her is missing. These are two characters who have kept each other safe and been there.

Those decomposed walkers from the sewer were some of the coolest and most frightening walkers of the season. We should have been expecting something down there, since it seems there's no safe place in this world. But seriously, the look of those walkers was really awesome.

On the downside of things, staying away from the whole "Glenn thing," this was more of a dull episode. Last week, we saw a whole lot of character development from Morgan, with very little action and it was one of the better episodes of the series. Here, while there's little action and a decent amount of development, the overall episode felt like it was spread too thin and it came off a bit like a filler episode.

While it may have felt like filler and felt a bit stretched to fill the hour, this was still a solid episode. The episode deals more with how the people of Alexandria are going to keep going, after the attack from the Wolves, even if that means possibly raiding the food stash... even though Spencer convinced them not to, then raided the stash himself. We're getting into the heads of the characters and finding out how far they're willing to go to get back to normalcy, even if that means a pregnant Maggie heads outside the walls to find Glenn. Fans are probably going to be bummed that there's no new information when it comes to Glenn this week and possibly next week, but the show continues to be a blast.
